Fake AVRI Strat?

Being sold as a 93 "Vintage American." I assume it is/trying to be an AV 62 . Decal looks like it's about to fall off the edge. Why does an AV 62 neck have the walnut truss plug (and why is it so wide looking? Was it drilled out?) Note: upload reduced quality so you can't tell here, but a second string tree was present, removed/filled. Has Klusons. But...

What's up with the serial number/"Made in USA?" Font does not look correct... Or am I mistaken?

Six hole/cheap saddle. Obvious aftermarket pickguard... No skunk. Twenty-one frets. Totally fake, or any other possibilities?

It shouldn't have a skunk stripe, and 21 frets is correct for a 62 AVRI. The headstock looks fishy, but I'm not an expert on the AVRI line.

Re: Fake AVRI Strat?

Yep. Headstock shape looks wrong, as well as the trussrod plug.
Another tell are the backplate screwholes. The middle two are never opposite each other in any USA guitar.

Re: Fake AVRI Strat?

i thought the serial numbers were on the neck plate for reissues or on the front of the headstock for 1990s?

Re: Fake AVRI Strat?

It is a chinese something, most likely a Squier that has been...well badly modded....everything is wrong, bad vibrato, wrong headstock shape, wrong neck plate, colour is wrong as well.
Nut, rosewood, it all ads up to cheap Asian import.....nothing remotely is representing a 93 Fender.

Re: Fake AVRI Strat?

The seller pulled/rel-isted with additional pics after I contacted him. Description now claims that the authenticity is in question... Although it's still listed as a Fender.

...It's bid to like $350 , still :p

Pics show ceramic pickups, a body that's a pretty obvious Squier/import based on holes/routing, no body/neck stampings... I've still been on the lookout for Strats lately, I'm alarmed how many fakes turn up on eBay with "USA" stickers...
