Fancy picks

I have been using Red Bear Medium Classics with the speed bevel for a while, love them. They really do feel better, last longer and sound better than inexpensive picks. Anyone else use em?

I also have a question....a friend of mine suggested I try out a Blue Chip pick. I just ordered up a TD 60, which is a 1.5 mm with the speed bevels. Anyone tried these and/or Red Bears?

Here is Andy doing a little Blue Chip Pick demo...yes he can make anything sound good but he swears these picks makes things easier and better.

Not cheap but the tone starts with the pick and works its way out from there. I used to think fancy picks were silly....not anymore.

Re: Fancy picks

A lot of people swear by Blue Chips at the Acoustic Guitar Forum. I figure I should get a nice acoustic first. ;)

Re: Fancy picks

A friend gave me one of those wegen picks a TF 140 i think.

Anyways, it plays and feels really good - especially the speed bevel tip. But i think at 15 bucks a pick, thats a lot of dough when you lose it.
So i tried beveling a Dunlop 207 so its tip is the same shape by using a nail shaper. Cool thing is that i ended up preferring the sound and feel of the modified 207. A couple of other jazz guitarists i know really dug it too - including the guy who gave me the wegen pick. So now all three of us use the cheap dunlop 207's with a hend beveled tip.
So i guess the expensive pick was a good thing - cos it gave me a template to work off!

I like the Gravity Razor Big Mini's. I've also got one of them mammoth ivory picks, but I'm not a huge fan of it. Gives the strings a funky overtone.

Re: Fancy picks

I still swear by the Dunlop Adamas graphite picks. Big 2mm thing. You cant get them anymore though although Dunlop might still have some available direct, i dont know.

Re: Fancy picks

Have wanted to try the Red Bear picks. Guthrie Goven and Dweezel use them, but at $30 or so a piece........
