I've tried the Gibson HP range and loved them with the fast access heel but they're a bit out my price range of around 1k - I'm looking second hand as well...
What other guitars are there out there with this type of neck??......or do i just go 24 fret........
MT!

Ok, cool. I was wanting to upgrade from my 2016 Gibson LP Studio. What's your thoughts on the PRS custom 24?
Or is there some usa guitar builders that do this sort of thing......you can get the ed roman baker b1 brand new for about £800 ($1,100) but then they haven't had good reviews.....

Carvin/Keisel may have what you want
It's a straight up custom shop
They will make it ever how you want within reason

Gets expensive as your wishlist grows though

Re: Fast access heel necks??

A Dean Hardtail', either the USA or Korean models, have a very similar heel, easy upper fret access, 22 frets, 22 3/4" scale, maple cap over mahogany body and hardware and controls almost identical to a Les Paul. I've owned 5 and you won't find a better alternative unless you go with a neck through. This feels like a neck through. It gives up plenty of Les Paul tones while having some flexibility a Gibson doesn't give.

Maybe I'm missing it, but I think you can get a more "neck-through-Ish" set neck heel from an Ibanez SZ.

Re: Fast access heel necks??

To get that access on a Les Paul usually needs a deeper neck pocket like a set thru...

ESP/LTD has quite a few- usually their 22 fret Eclipse or EC models have the traditional neck joint, whereas the 24 fret models have a sculpted heel, with the exception of the Gary Hold model, which has 22 frets and a sculpted heel

Re: Fast access heel necks??

(Real) ESP boltons have some sweet shaves... LTD versions get a halfassed variant for some reason, maybe costcutting, maybe to be intentionally worse

Which you may be able to approximate fairly well by taking a razor blade or file to some more traditional bolton heels.

The impact of the shaved corner alone is pretty shocking, it gives you the equivalent of like +4 frets of reach

Some of the new ec-401 from ESP LTD have them, Ibanez and Jackson both offer but very different style of guitars.
Gibson SGs have good access and I like PRS too
Ibanez SZs are fantastic guitars for the money and have good access.

I'm pretty sure I was just infected with an STD after clicking that link.

The epiphone Matt heafy les paul custom has the access heal like the expensive ones. 22 frets too
