Fat 50s with ceramic humbucker in HSS

Hello guys!

Think this is my third post about the same guitar hahah but still trying to figure out what arrangement would be best.

HSS strat type guitar. Would like to put a ceramic pickup, but a lower output one, maybe Dimarzio transition.

Any thoughts of how Fender shop fat 50s would hold up next to that? Was hoping fir traditional tones but a bit more output. Originally i was thinking SSL-5s but i'm scared to move too far away from strat style true single coils.

Hi,

Not sure I have an answer for you, but I've used Fat '50's and they can keep up with humbuckers in terms of loudness. I replaced the bridge pup in my Strat with an SSL-3. Just as loud, but better harmonics

It is always a compromise. Add output to a single coil, and it starts getting more mids, and less highs. A single coil with enough output to compete with humbuckers generally won't sound like a traditional single coil. Still, I like the SSL-6 in the neck and middle of an HSS with 500k pots.
