After some deliberation, I've decided to get a new pickguard and transform my SSS American Strat into an HSS. It's a swimming pool wiring setup so it won't be a problem. I have a JB humbucker that I've had lying around that I'm gonna put in the bridge. My strat came with Custom Shop Fat 50's in all positions, and I would like to keep them in the neck and middle. However I'm concerned that the JB would be too hot of a bucker to use with the fat 50s? I'm thinking maybe Fender N3 noiseless but I'd rather not spend $140 for two new pickups if the ones I have will work fine. Anyone have any experience with the Fat 50s with a humbucker, specifically the JB?

id try it with the fat 50s first. those are nice sounding pups, i like them a whole lot more than the n3.
start with the jb set low and adjust the pups till you find the balance you want. its always a little trick to get singles and buckers to play nice but it just takes a little patience and the results can be great

Are you worried from experience, or because of what you've seen others talk about as far as output matching? I think you'll be fine with the fat 50's and JB as long as you like both already. Besides, I like my pickups to sound pretty different from each other in guitars. What Jeremy said is on point.

Both are Alnico Vs and the Fat 50's are hotter than most American Standards. Try them together and see what you think. Should be a great combo. And Fat 50's are my favorite Single Coils set.

+1 Fat '50's are great pups and have plenty of balls, so matching with a humbucker and making a few adjustments should make you happy
