Fat strat

I plan on getting a Duncan JB for my fat strat and I was wondering if I need to rewire the tone control to the bridge position after installing it. Would you guys recommend doing this or does it sound fine without rewiring?

Hey Geddy, WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

If you are going with a JB I would recommend putting the bridge pup on the second tone control and the neck middle singles on the first tone control. I'd also leave the 250K pot because in a strat a JB can be very bright, this tames down the high end.

Hope that helps!

Re: Fat strat

Put one tone cap on the bridge pu and one on the neck. No need for the middle pu to have a tone control because most people use it 99% of the time in the #2 and #4 positions, in which case it is affected by the bridge or neck tone caps anyway. And the middle tone is thick enough that I can't imagine a reason for rolling it off even in the #3 position.

Re: Fat strat

can i just keep everything the same for the neck and middle pickups and just have the bridge connected to the middle tone control?

If you'd rather have it there than the normal position it's up to you.

You can put the pickup in as is without doing anything with the tone controls if you want.

Re: Fat strat

ok, are there any websites that give full detail on installing the humbucker and rerouting the tone control to the bridge in a fat strat?
