Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

Re: Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

Martin D35, followed closely by Guild F50 (all maple jumbo, except for the spruce top).

Re: Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

My favorite is a Martin HD28 followed very closely by a Gibson Advance Jumbo.

Re: Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

I like Martins, and I have several. I also have a Taylor 710CE with a Fishman that is very nice, but my DC Aura has a much better tone, both acoustically and plugged in. The CTB-4 preamp in my Takamine 12-strings gives great tone, too.

I think if I were in the market for another it would be the Martin HD-28 Retro. They are just amazing. But there are a lot of good budget models out there too.

Re: Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

I currently only have a Guild DV-6, but I've played acoustics by most of the other mainstream manufacturers. I personally don't care for Gibsons or Martins, and Taylors are nice but I can't justify the spend. IF I decide to get a nicer acoustic, I'd like to have a Westerly Guild D50 or DV-52. I'd also like a F212-XL 12-string.

HD-28V!

There are a TON of really cool acoustics out there though!

Re: Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

I'm a big fan of Collings and Larrivee acoustic guitars. Both companies build great guitars. I play a Collings 001-mhsb.

Re: Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

I'm really fond of my Epiphone PR-5e. It's the only decent acoustic I've ever had though. When I go into a store I strum the open strings of the ones on the wall and choose the most resonant one, which usually turns out to be a Taylor.

Collings does make very nice acoustics, electrics and archtops. I prefer Santa Cruz guitars personally. I have an OM as well as a Tony Rice, which is essentially a D28 with an oversized sound-hole. The OM is my favorite guitar that I own and I own 30 guitars (11 acoustics & 19 Electrics) I also own a Martin D18, J40, D15 and a few other acoustics. But the question that you ask is a very personal choice for all of us. Favorite brand guitars vrs what you prefer to play has a lot to do with the type of music & your personal playing style. I prefer the OM, triple O size as I tend to lean more towards fingerpicking. In small body guitars like OM or triple O I prefer Rosewood & Spruce. With larger guitars I really like Mahogany back & sides as I think it offers better balance from string to string. The D18 I have is a killer guitar, its a shaded top but just beautiful I haven't had it too long but am getting a feel for it.

Martin HD28
Gibson J45
Takamine Santa Fe sf48 (or most SF series!)

Re: Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

I'm really liking what Walden has been putting out lately. Very few guitar companies use real Nitro lacquer like Walden does. And you can't beat the price. They are very affordable. I know it sounds over the top, but I'd be happy to put my Walden up against many higher costing acoustics.

Re: Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

My dream guitar waivers between a Santa Cruz OM-PW, and a Larrivee OM-03R... They share rosewood back and sides, spruce top, mahogany neck, and ebony fingerboard.

But there's a coco bolo Taylor at the local shop that is incredible.

Re: Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

I'm actually going to have a Falbo. As soon a Frank sends me a complimentary test model….

I may need a few years to really put it through its paces.

Re: Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

Believe it or not my Jasmine (sub-brand of Takamine) S35 dreadnought. I was playing it the other day and was amazed at how much it has opened up since I first bought it. It has a beautiful tone on it and having .013's on it helps. I don't play her as much as I should but really love her sound and feel when I do.

Re: Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

I am a big fan of the Taylor 14 series guitars .

Re: Favorite Acoustic or Acoustic/Electric Guitar?

I have 3 acoustic electric guitars and I love all 3 of them for different reasons.First I have a limited edition '83 Yamaha -F-346-SB in Marine Blue that I converted shortly after buying it to acoustic electric by installing a Yamaha soundhole pickup that also has a transducer under the bridge saddle. There is only one control on the pickup which is a simple blend control that just balances between the soundhole humbucker and the bridge transducer giving the guitar an incredible tonal range. My next is a Fender Stratacoustic which has a beautifully slim Strat neck that allows me to do lead breaks without getting the finger fatigue that playing a regular jumbo or dreadnaught guitar would.Although the Stratacoustic sounds thin when played acoustically, when it's played electrically plugged into a good amp or PA system it has a monster tone that just booms out at you.The first time I plugged my Stratacoustic into an ampo I was completely floored by the incredible full tone that came from a guitar that sounded so thin and wimpy when played acoustically. My next acoustic electric is my Epiphone EJ-160-E John Lennon model,it's a beautifully finished guitar with great action and although it doesn't sound as much like the Gibson counterpart as I would like it to,when it's played through an amp it sends you straight into goose bump territory. The first time that I played it through my AC-15 and did the intro to "I Feel Fine" I got goosebumps the size of plums because the guitar just nailed the tone of the original-spot on. That's my 3 favourite acoustic electrics that I own but I would love to have a Martin D-45 or D-28 either acoustic or electrified and a Gibson Hummingbird or J-45.I have always loved these guitars but after all these years I still haven't gotten around to buying one.
