favorite/best practice amp?

Re: favorite/best practice amp?

I think one of those cute little Twin Reverbs ought to do the trick... Light weight, portable, and quiet on "10". Won't even disturb the neighbors after 10:00 PM (assuming they are over 85 years old and have taken out their hearing aids and gone to bed).

(Earplugs for everyone else!!!)

Re: favorite/best practice amp?

Depends on the motel. If it's one of the ones where the 102-car express train rolls through at 4:14 A.M. on tracks that are 12 feet away from my room; or the one where the couple in the room next to me are determined to use the headboard of the bed to knock down the common wall of our rooms--why, then I prefer the full stack version of the Mesa Triple Rectifier.

Don't have one, but otherwise I think a Roland Cube should be fine.

My all-time fav practice amp though is the original Fender Super Champ.

Roland MicroCubes kick ass

+ 3

I'm rockin' the Cube Street 2 speaker angled dealie.

I like it. Not the best sounding can of bees but that's okay for private practice. Runs on AA's and I can plug in my ipod and use it as a "boom box" or learning new songs.

I keep it in the back of my truck for tailgate parties.

Tip: Grab an old guitar strap and attach some strap buttons to the side of the amp. BOOM! instant shoulder strap! now you've still got one hand free!

Re: favorite/best practice amp?

Dunno, when ever I enter a music shop, GC, etc and someone is playing a Vox Valvetronix I laugh because it usually sounds really f-ing good. Sometimes over the top settings but I can't think of a better bang for you buck amp on the market.

Re: favorite/best practice amp?

I like a 100-watt handwired 1959 Marshall Super Lead. Cranked. On 11. Why do you ask?

Re: favorite/best practice amp?

best i have come across is the tech 21 TM 10 but they are discontinued.
this little bad A$$ had a effects loop and spring reverb and also has fender cleans and marshall and mesa gains.
I used to use one with a Gmajor in the loop and it sounded outstanding,to this day i am kickin myself in the A$$ for selling it!:banghead::angryfire

Re: favorite/best practice amp?

I still use this Crate GX212+ combo for practice, but swapped the speakers for Celestion 80s.

I use the Q-zone pedal and cabinet with my Mesa/Boogie rack rig now.

Re: favorite/best practice amp?

i'm looking for something i can haul around on road trips, motel to motel. something i can carry in one hand while i carry my guitar in the other. preferably something with a good classic metal tone. i tried searching and couldnt find anything. seems like nobody ever talks about practice amps. so whats your favorite little amp?

Did you hear the man say ' something i can carry in one hand while i carry my guitar in the other ' ?

Seriously, the Microcube is all you need. Cheap, reliable, sounds great.
