Favorite blues interpreter/style

i've been really digging hendrix alot lately in his gentler songs from his blues compilation. A different style, but rooted in tradition. Aggressively smooth is how i'd describe it. A good blues interpreter in my book, and he wouldn't take 30 minute solos to butcher his own playing.

Who do you guys like? I guess my own style is a cross between SRV, Hendrix, Clapton, and charlie christian in some aspects.

Ditto, I just got his cd entitled, Blues. Its a Great cd, and shows a side of his playing most dont know. My favortie tracks on it are...

1. Mannish Boy- Such a funky bluesy rythm.
2. Catfish Blues- Alot of Passion in his singing
3. Jam 292- Awesome song

I really like Hendrixs blues side, SRV, Clapton in his Cream days, Johnny Winter, The Doors bluesier stuff, Howlin Wolf (ALOT, thats him holding the budweiser in my avatar), Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson...

but i guess i sound most like Hendrixs blues/psychadelic, SRV, and Johnny Winter(and i never really listened to him that much, i just sound alot like him).

I couldnt pick a favorite blues player.

I've always loved blues but am just know starting to really reach into it, as I've matured as a player I think the blues is the most "real" style to me. If you listen to Hendrix play some straight up blues it is pretty hard to beat IMO, he had it down. I really want to start listening to guys like Muddy, Freddie/Albert/BB king, Robert Johnson, howlin wolf...the list goes on. I LOVE listening to SRV and the Allman brothers as well.

I was thinkin about if I had listened and played blues when I started out at around 11 or 12 years old I can't even imagine where I'd be as a player now. When I saw Eric Steckel(see my thread) play it really inspired me, to see someone my age play so amazingly and with so much emotion, I read that he's been playin guitar since he was like 9 and it has been blues since day one for him.
I've always thought that every person has something their passionate about and if they're lucky enough can channel it to express their feelings and emotions, like writing poetry, or being a songwriter, or painting/drawing, or surfing etc. What I'm now realising is playing blues guitar could be my place, I just wished so much I would have realised that when I was much younger.

I like a lot of the same style as you describe. A really good blues player is Robin Ford. Very sofisticated in comparison to many of the traditional players.

Robben Ford is amazing. And so is Larry Carlton when he plays the blues. Check out his latest "Sapphire Blue". Another smooth player is Mike Landau, but he doesn't play the blues often enough.

Billy Gibbons on the last 3 ZZ records. Good lord I can't get enough of his playing. His licks and tone are just so damn tasty.

The thing with Hendrix is that he improvised a lot of his guitar playing, which is key to any guitar player. He jammed and learned from the best, like BB King in his early years. Listen to Red House at Woodstock along with his other tunes and you'll see the emotion. He was such an awesome player, he set himself up for his career, and then wrote about all of the women he had. But his talent is undeniable, and impossible to overlook, he was electric freakish blues/distortion pioneer. Think about it, the closest thing before him was Chuck Berry.
