What is your favorite brand of acoustic guitar? Please vote and then post in the comments what your favorite model(s) is and why.

Since the poll is limited to 10 items so I won't be able to list every brand (and to keep the choices down to 9 with 10 being "other", I chose not to list sub-brands because they basically make cheaper versions of the parent/higher quality brand--for example Epiphone is not listing because they make cheaper versions of Gibson.)

Alvarez
Breedlove
Fender
Gibson
Martin
Seagull
Tacoma
Takamine
Taylor
Other

Larrivee...

I have a Breedlove, and it's a fine guitar, Seagull makes some great guitars, but my serious acoustic lust is reserved for a Larrivee OM-03R...

Hasn't Fender pretty much shutdown Tacoma? I haven't seen one of those for sale in Georgia for years.

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

Yamaki guitars from the 60-70s are awesome and can be had for very little money. I've played five of them, and owned two.

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

i have a taylor 814ce and ns62ce, a martin d28, '62 hofner jtm45 copy, '68 guild f212.

if i was going to buy another off the shelf acoustic id would be a guild

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

I own 11 acoustics. My favorite guitar that I own is a Santa Cruz OM. Best playing and sounding guitar I have. I own 4 Martins as well, a D18 Golden era, a D18 Martin Sigma, a J40 and a D15. I have a Guild D55 that is a sweet guitar, a Alvarez Yari YB1 baritone flatop acoustic & an Alvarez Classical. as well as two Dobros. I tend to lean towards the Martin style of guitars. I like the fact that they play like an acoustic nit like an electric. Some people are looking for a guitar to pay as easily as possible, but I like it when they fight back a bit.

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

I'm all about the 14 series Taylor acoustice. They sound perfect for the type of stuff that I do.

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

I have a Fender something or another and it sounds pretty good, but if I was allowed to go buy a new guitar, I would be getting a Martin something or another. Taylors suck in comparison.

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

My vote went to Taylor. My 414 is over 10 years old and still sounds glorious, probably even more than she did before. Sounds great live with a Mag-Mic, sounded amazing miked when I recorded my album and just delicious when playing/singing by myself and plays like a dream.

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

I can't imagine ANY musical situation where a rosewood body/sides D series martin would be out of place,so that's it for me.

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

No contest GOODALL!
Had the same experience every time I have picked one up in a shop. Pick up the Goodall play it for a little while then play other guitars in the shop and they all sound like they have been stuffed full of cotton. Doesn't matter what the other guitars are or how much they cost the tone of the Goodall to my ear always stands out in ways that I can't describe. Nothing else I have ever heard or played was even close head to head with the Goodalls I have played.
Problem for me is the $$ with how little I play acoustics out as what I want is 5K +.
Basically what you see in this video is what I want.

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

My favorite acoustic to play is a small-bodied mahogany Martin.

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

Boy, I appreciate the Santa Cruzes, Collings, Goodalls and Bourgeois, but in my price range there's nothing like an HD-28.

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

Gibson Advanced Jumbo
Gibson SJ-200 Pete Townshend (signed label)
Guild F-412
Seagull S6+ (Spruce top - Cherry back/sides)
Regal RD-40 resonator roundneck
Yamaha classical and 12-string

Love Martins but can't afford now.

Taylors sound best by themselves, but the primary acoustics I use (Gibson/Guild) seem to mix better with electric guitars and drums on recordings. (Martins and Taylors, when not the primary instrument of the song, only the pick scratching seems to come through the mix, rather than the notes of the chords.)

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

I voted Gibson, because I am in love with my J200. That guitar really swings my vote.

Re: Favorite Brand - Acoustic

Over the course of the last couple of years I've been playing lots of top level Gibson and Martins, and some vintage gems. I love modern Gibsons for best Action ( including cutaways)and Gibson for Acoustic Electrics and the biggest brightest tone- they can be cannons!
Martin for vintage .. higher action, and sweetest tone with lower volume but more subtlety and finesse and richer tone, and for lightest guitars with full dreadnought design .Too bad I can't play acoustic very well..lol.
