Favorite delay pedal

Re: Favorite delay pedal

Had a Line6 DL4 to start with - fab pedal but far too many options, I spent more time tweaking it than actually playing the guitar!

Then got a Boss Digital Delay, thing it was a DD5 - was okay nothing spectacular but did its job well.

Have now got a Carbon Copy, I like the analogue vibe alot and its really simple to use. The modulation button is handy too for adding that little bit of shimmer.

I tend to setup my pedals and leave them, I'm not an endless tweaker as it interferes too much with playing!

Re: Favorite delay pedal

My favorite delay? Boss DD-3: cheap, tough, and good-sounding. For flexibility, I have two. But it's not on your list.

I love the DL4...currently using the delay on the Line6 M13.

Re: Favorite delay pedal

It seems that you really need two delays... maybe a simple, warm analog delay like the carbon copy or the DMM, and then a full-featured digital one for those times you need more complex effects.
Andy Timmons runs two DMM's in series, one set at 500ms, the other around 350ms, and gets that nice organic EH tone, while also being able to get multi-tap delays without having to use a really complex device.

Re: Favorite delay pedal

I've had a Line 6 DL4, Deluxe Memory Man, and a Sunny Day Delay. Each with their pros & cons but I'm fond of each pedal for different reasons.

Now I own a Deja Vu', mainly for the tap tempo + analog warmth all in one unit. I give it an 8 out of 10. One of the small drawbacks for me is getting "musical" oscillation sounds from it.

My Sunny Day Delay was KILLER for this application of delay, if it had a tone control, tap tempo, and stereo outs it would be my favorite.

The Deja Vu' has all of these (except the "tone" is actually a balance between digital & analog, but close) and is absolutely fabulous. Not to mention the recording options it opens up with the wet/dry out and stereo outs.

Great delay pedal.

Thanks... I was actually leaning toward either the Vox time machine, or the deja vu... suprisingly no one has spoken out for the Vox, it's got some great reviews on harmony. But there are a lot of great recommendations here, and it seems that the Deluxe Memory man has a lot of recommendations for its tone, so now I'm considering that one along with the vox and the deja vu.
Looks like I'll eventually end up with two, but which to get first? :scratchch

Re: Favorite delay pedal

The DD-20 has so many different settings, including reverb, chorus, multi-head delay, doubling + single delay, analog sound, reverse, and some crazy ones. I usually keep it on standard and tweak the knobbies a lot.

Re: Favorite delay pedal

I like the eventide timefactor, but I had the Nova delay before the timefactor and it was a very solid pedal. The only complaint i have is sometimes it does this weird thing where it just freezes... sound wise i liked it though.

Re: Favorite delay pedal

I dig my Behringer VD400(Boss DM-2 Clone) quite a bit. $29 shipped for a true analog delay is to good to be true. True it wont do long delay times and repeats can be dark. But it does do the spaceship noises all the way back to slapback.

its bypass is pretty good and I like the buffer at the end of my chain. Everyone should pick one of these up before dropping money on a nicer analog delay. Or atleast until the $80 EHX Memory Toy comes out.

Re: Favorite delay pedal

I've had a Deja Vu for a couple of months now and it is great. Just having analog and digital delays in the same pedal with the ability to blend them PLUS tap tempo and true bypass is mind-blowing for an old-school simpleton like me! I haven't even begun to explore the wet/dry loopy stuff! The Deja Vu is on my gigging pedalboard and doing a great job. And yes I can get the Brian Robertson "Still In Love With You" live sound with it...

Also have to agree with Rich_S and give props to the humble Boss DD-3. I love mine and have thought of getting two like Rich has. I'd set one for slapback and the other for "Still In Love With You". Great pedal.

Hmmm, maybe I should have both the Deja Vu and the DD-3 on my board. :scratchch

I've sold my Echo Park since I got the Deja Vu!

Re: Favorite delay pedal

I use the Ibanez DE-7, and although it doesn't allow you to change things on the fly, it's still a very versatile pedal.

Re: Favorite delay pedal

i liked the DE-7...but the Red Repeat is much warmer...i even like it much better than the carbon copy!

Re: Favorite delay pedal

If you have a Boss DD-3 and an Ibanez AD-9 (any version will do), you have delay pretty much covered. These days I do dig the Carbon Copy though....

I see delay as either pristine repeats or analog warmness - your call. For an old classic rock tune, say some floyd, AD-9. For maybe Ratt, DD-3.

The biggest thing to me is I'd change delay settings twice in a song, and never use the same exact setting twice! I'd need a pedal with 200 presets.

Re: Favorite delay pedal

I think I'm going to go with the duncan Deja Vu... I really like the feature set, it's just right for what I want to do, and the ability to dial in a blend of digital and analog, or one or the other alone, is perfect. It's really a brilliant concept... it uses the digital delay to achieve the longer delay times, and then pushes the result through a BBD chain for the final delay to get the analog warmth.

Although I must admit I'm still a litttle bit drawn to the DMM, just because it's such a classic, and I've loved every EHX pedal I've owned...

Re: Favorite delay pedal

Anyone tried the Delta Labs Delay? Thinking about making a purchase.
