Favorite Nonstandard Guitar Color?

There have been many "favorite guitar color" threads long before this one, but I thought I'd change this one up by adding parameters. The color cannot be a "standard" color, meaning I'm looking for limited edition, special edition, or custom shop types of colors.

I like Teal on a Strat.

A close second is Shoreline Gold.

Both of those are great. I really like teal. Copper is another great color, as is sapphire blue.

Re: Favorite Nonstandard Guitar Color?

I never like a color long enough to say I have a favorite, but these two are pretty great. No idea what color the green is.

I just want an RGB slider on the back of my guitars. Maybe a clear sheet of metallic filled acrylic stuffed with LEDs.

^Jaguar is perfect. I agree with sparkle, here's my cheapo Strat-in-progress:

(That said, I don't think the Teal or Shoreline Gold are really "non-standard;" they were "Custom Colors" in the sixties, as available for most Fender guitars as more frequently orders colors like Dakota, or white for that matter.)

Back in the 80's Lamborghini had a color called black orchid. It looked black if you saw it straight on, but had a purple iridescence to it from an angle. I always thought that it would make a great guitar color, though I have yet to see it done.

Re: Favorite Nonstandard Guitar Color?

G&L has a lot of nice finishes and colors. I have 18 of these guitars in most of the colors of the rainbow and love all of them! One of the nicest is a silver metallic Legacy Special; I like it because it really picks up all the stage light colors. Under the lights, it just glows. I also have a Legacy that is the Mary Kay blonde on ash, and that's a beautiful guitar.

Of my Les Pauls, my quilt-top Elegant in Peacock Blue is spectacular, as is my flame-top Supreme in Root Beer. But the two Gibson 2007 GOTW Classic Antiques I have, one in Fireburst, are simply OUTRAGEOUS! The other one is the Tom Morgan Graphic Artist model. Uniformly guys HATE it, but the women seem to love it. Every time I have taken that guitar out a woman has come up to and commentsd on how beautiful that guitar is.

I've also always dug non-standard body woods with interesting coloring and a clear satin finish.

Re: Favorite Nonstandard Guitar Color?

About 15 years ago, Gibson made the Les Paul Classic in a copper top. I always loved that colour.

I also like Kiesel's moss green. If I ever order one of their guitars, it'd be this colour.

Re: Favorite Nonstandard Guitar Color?

You need to define "standard" better. Traditionally, "standard" on a Fender is sunburst or blonde. Anything else was traditionally called a "Custom Color." Custom colors are not exactly rare or truly custom any more, so today, the typical lineup of Fender "formerly custom colors" can be reasonably described as "typical colors." They include that Shoreline Gold you posted, yet you say you only want limited edition or custom colors, so I'm not sure what qualifies.

Also, FWIW, "Ice Blue Metallic" is a modern-day in-house Fender garbling of the original name of the color: Blue Ice Metallic. (The original paint color was called Silver Blue on Fords and Lincolns, and Blue Ice on Mercurys.) "IBM" has caught on, and it's what most people call it these days, but it is properly called "BIM" when referring to it as an old custom color in and of itself.

Either way, I love it. ;) Pretty close to Blue Agave also. I don’t think that was an original PPG color though, right?
