The electric sitar.
Most oddball effects now have become well-known and sought after, like the Univibe, the Binson Echorec or Roland Space Echo, the Eventide Harmonizer, etc.
One personal favorite was my ADA S1000 Digital Delay, in part because it had this deep phase shift that seemed to span twice as many octaves as I could get with any other digital unit at the time.
