Favorite Pick(s)

Re: Favorite Pick(s)

Herco Flex .75s - the gray ones... Used Tortex for a while and hated them.. Always struggled to find the right pick for playing electric.. Was into the 3mm Big stubbys for a while, then I stumbled over the Hercos and .96mm Dunlop Delrins and they both work wonders.. I found it a bit difficult to get pinch harmonics from the Hercos as first, but once you get used to them, they have a great attack.. Very lively.

On steel string acoustic its the Hercos, Delrin .73mm or Fender Mediums.. All work well.. I tend to use the same on nylon string guitar as well, not really a fingerstyle player.

Re: Favorite Pick(s)

I'm in love with the Dunlop Ultex sharps, usually .90. I'm surprised no one else has gotten into them. They're similar to tortex but the material stays grippier much longer, I like the tortex .88's but that material wears down really quickly and because my hands are very dry they end up slipping wayyy to easily. The Ultex seems to stay grippy forever. Also the "Sharps" in the ultex variety, for some reason, aren't the same shape as the other dunlop sharp picks. They're just sharp on the tip, like a big Jazz III or like the new Tortex III's. Great for playing leads.

I'm also totally fine with regular old celluloid heavy Fender or Dunlop picks. That celluloid seems to stay in my hands just as easy if not more so than the tortex.

Re: Favorite Pick(s)

I haven't played nor have I owned an acoustic guitar for years, so I don't know what pick I'd use for one.

But, for electric playing it's been Clayton Acetal 1.90 mm picks exclusively and has been for maybe a whole year now.

I've realized that after experimenting that I like my guitar picks to be on or around 2.0 mm and have a sharp/round tip as seen above.

I've been using Dunlop tortex orange, .66 I believe, for about 12 years. I use it for everything: electric, acoustic, bass. Nothing else feels right.

Re: Favorite Pick(s)

Sam Ash picks and that pick "hole puncher" that makes picks out of any material you put in it. Can't be bothered to actually buy picks. I would use my nails more if I had them...

Re: Favorite Pick(s)

Here's a pick selling for $11,000 on ebay! It's probably sold already.

Re: Favorite Pick(s)

I have recently discovered Dunlop herco gold flex 50s and really like them. Tortex .50 and .60 had been my staples before

Right there with you, still use the Tortex .50's but getting into the Flex, I like a very light pick.

Re: Favorite Pick(s)

Tortex blue. I also like the purple ones, and sometimes the green ones. Before I found those, I used Fender tortoise shell extra heavies.

Re: Favorite Pick(s)

Celluloid teardrops medium when avaible, seems that Europe has run out of those....have used all kinds of picks over the years, but the celluloid ones I have almost used right from the start.

I'm using V Picks all the time now. Really like them. Mostly I use the Screamer, or Medium Pointed or Medium Rounded.

Re: Favorite Pick(s)

for the electric, its usually the Jazz III Ultex. For acoustic/folky stuff its the grey grippy dunlops

I don't know why but it really grosses me out when I see guitar players playing with their nails

I like the Ultex Sharps as well, usually .73's, even though I've got a set of .90's that I'm trying out as well.
