Re: favorite pickups for rock leads/solos

Custom custom for rythym playing, no preference for lead. I don't play hard leads/solos really. Didn't vote.

Re: favorite pickups for rock leads/solos

You have the SH-5 Custom listed twice...

That's my favorite of those given choices. I also like the Air Zone and Fred.

Re: favorite pickups for rock leads/solos

I voted jb b/c that's what I have in my epi bridge. It's also great for rythm too.

Re: favorite pickups for rock leads/solos

i use a SD livewire metal, which is an active duncan distortion i think, so i voted DD

Re: favorite pickups for rock leads/solos

I'm gonna say the JB, but I'm using a Custom for rhythm and leads nowadays - so I choose the Custom.

Re: favorite pickups for rock leads/solos

I'm surprised that the Distortion is beating the JB..........

Re: favorite pickups for rock leads/solos

You should try any pickup with a A8. Dont like it clean too much, but never had better lead sound like in a JB8 (a bit into the DD direction but with lots of harmonics and rounder highs) and the Custom8 (rounder highs, more mids and more controllable bass, rich harmonics). reports with a Screaming Deamon 8 is coming. No vote so!

Re: favorite pickups for rock leads/solos

Had to go with the Full Shred, of choices listed. Runners up: Custom (fun but a little grainy) and Custom Custom (missing a little treble). Remember your mileage may vary.

Re: favorite pickups for rock leads/solos

I voted JB, but just remember that I've only owned the JB and a PG+ for bridge humbuckers, and I'm thinking you wanted bridge humbuckers. If it were single coils, however, all I've tried is the A2Ps middle/bridge combo for solos, but that or middle alone worked out good for me.

Re: favorite pickups for rock leads/solos

there is so much controversy over the jb, but i think it sounds great with 500k pots, very harmonicky with more presence this way, people just want everything to sound like a warm paf, these people should just get a custom5 or 59.

Re: favorite pickups for rock leads/solos

I voted for the SH5, although I do a lot of solo's on my middle quarter pounder which gives me a more classic seventies rock sound.

Re: favorite pickups for rock leads/solos

jb's winning but the distortion and custom are tied actually, because i accidentally put the sh-5 custom down twice.
