Favorite Seymour Duncan loaded axes you have!

Re: Favorite Seymour Duncan loaded axes you have!

Nice upgrades. Fire?

Yeah... one of my ex-wives left a cigarette burning and... well... you can probably guess the rest. :smoker::firedevil:dunno:

I don't want to hijack the thread, but if you're interested in the story behind it you can read it here (on another forum... ssshhhhhhh!) :27:

Awesome story behind the guitar! And I'm glad you kept the battle scars on her, makes it look even better!

Thanks! She's ugly, but she treats me good!

(The guitar that is, not the ex-wife... she's just ugly! I've definitely "upgraded" in that department now!)

Seriously though, the Duncans have made all the difference in the world for sound. I know the Hot-Rodded Humbucker Set is sort of the "basic" of the bunch, and there are even a lot of guys who don't particularly like either or both of the pickups, but as far as I'm concerned they were exactly what this guitar needed and I couldn't be happier with it!

Haha! Well, the Axe looks pretty sweet to me, but I dig the relic/trashed look....for guitars that is ;)

Glad the pickups worked out for you! I've looked at the Hot-Rodded Set for a couple of projects, never pulled the trigger on them but I may in the future.

Re: Favorite Seymour Duncan loaded axes you have!

These two have Seymours in them: the Thinline has a Screamin' Demon in the bridge and a 59 in the neck; the Soloist has a Blues Saraceno Trembucker at the bridge and a Screamin' Demon at the neck (yes I like the Screamin' Demon - it works great in either position).

I love the Screamin' Demon in the Neck! (as seen in my San Dimas on page 1 of this thread) It is one of my favorite pickups, very versatile.

The G&L Legacy, which was the guitar that first brought me to the forum, has Antiquity Surfers.
The PRS McCarty has a Whole Lotta Humbucker set.
The Fret-King Esprit V has a '59/Custom Hybrid in the bridge and a Jazz in the neck.

They all have their own voice, and they're all a lot of fun to play! :)

Re: Favorite Seymour Duncan loaded axes you have!

I have so many guitars with Duncan's and love them all. I would say my favorite was my Dimebucker/Jazz loaded Iceman until I put the WLH set in my Les Paul. That guitar commands thunder from the Gods now, I love it.

62RI FSR in Ice Blue Metallic.
APS-1/SSL-1/SSL-1

Re: Favorite Seymour Duncan loaded axes you have!

I freaking love that guitar. It is full of win.

The Fret-King is like an SG on steroids! :D It's great fun to play, and its bridge voice with the '59/Custom is pure rock 'n roll.

Re: Favorite Seymour Duncan loaded axes you have!

Double screw coil, no logo shop floor custom JB in the bridge (I cut the ears down to triangle shape since it looks better when direct mounted)

Re: Favorite Seymour Duncan loaded axes you have!

4 out of 6 of mine are Seymour Duncan Equipped!!!

#1. 1988 Jackson Soloist Custom/Ontario Custom Shop "Glow In The Dark" Crackle/Lava Serial #J4742: Sustains forever, JE1200 Active Mid-Boost is awesome, Reverse Headstock/Neck-Thru/Ebony Fretboard, J200/J200/Pre-2004 Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Maricela Juarez “Evenly Voiced Harmonics” Trembucker/JE1200 Active Mid-Boost, Non-Recessed Original Floyd Rose w/Floyd Upgrades Threaded Screw In Arm, Schaller Straplocks/Black Leather Strap

#2. 2013 USACG/Warmoth Iceman: This is my EVH/Brown Sound Guitar, incredibly comfy neck, an Custom - Custom Build, USACG Quarter-Sawn Maple/Maple Fretboard Neck - 12” Radius, 22 Jumbo Frets, R2 1 5/8” Nut, Gotoh SG38 Tuners, Warmoth Mahogany Iceman Body in Pearl White, Seymour Duncan Jazz/JB-Custom Custom A2 Hybrid Trembucker, DiMarzio 500K Push:Pull Volume/3 Way LP Style Selector Switch/Fender TBX Tone x 2, Cup Jack, ’89 Ibanez Metal Pickup Mounting Rings and Vol/Tone/Tone Knobs, Recessed ’85 Original Floyd Rose w/Threaded Screw In Arm and 37mm Big Brass Block, DiMarzio Cliplock Black Strap

3. 1991 Gibson M-II Standard - I've owned three of these and never bonded with them, this one plays great, sounds great and does not go out of tune, First Year Production, Modified - Pickguard removed, body refinished in “Battle Worn Black”, Early 90’s Seymour Duncan Lidia Daniel Jazz JNL/Early 90s Classic Stack/JB TB4L in black plastic mounting rings, 5 Way Strat Selector/Mini Toggle/Volume/Tone .22 Orange Oil In Paper Cylinder Capacitor, “Gibson” Logo Tuners, Maple Fretboard w/Abalone Arrowhead Inlays, Recessed “Gibson” Schaller Made In Germany Floyd with Collared Arm, Custom “Day of The Dead” Truss Rod Cover, Q Parts Skull Vol/Tone Knobs, Schaller Straplocks/“Buddy Guy ‘08” Autographed Black & White Polka Dot Strap

4. 1998 Squier Venus - At one point in approx. 2000 I picked up a Sunburst Venus, Black Venus and 2 Fiesta Red Jag-Stangs. The Black Venus was the only one I kept and gave to my Daughter.

The Squier Vista Series Venus offered:

- Quality Craftsmanship "Crafted In Japan"
- Bound Fingerboard with Fully Bound 12" Radius Fretboard and Jumbo Frets
- Discontinued ('98 only) "seafoam green"
- Tune-O-Matic Bridge with String-Through Body Design
- Versatile Sonically - with only Volume/3 Way Selector Toggle Switch

I recently pulled it out of the case since my Daughter is away at college and I always enjoyed playing the damn thing so much. I really like it for an inexpensive unusual guitar along the same lines as any Fender Offset Guitar; Jaguar, Jazz-Master, Jag-Stang, etcetera.

I wasn't happy with the SD APS-1/Pearly Gates Trembucker so I swapped them out for a SD Antiquity Strat/'59 Trembucker, installed a new CTS 500k Volume and added a Fender TBX Tone, and, swapped the White Vol/Tone Knobs and Selector Switch Tip to Black as I think it looks much better with the "Tuxedo Black" Treatment. Set up with .10-.46 Strings. Now it also sounds MUCH better with the changes.
