Favorite Type of Effects Pedal

What is your favorite type of effect and why? Is it tremolo because you're a huge fan of blues? Is it overdrive to boost your amp? Is it a phaser for the Van Halen cover band you play in?

Amp distortion does not count with this. I'm talking strictly about effects pedals.

For me it's a wah pedal. I prefer the sound of a clean single channel amp with a medium to high gain pedal doing all the distortion for me (a Chandler Tube Driver is a good idea of what I'm talking about), and I use chorus 90% of the time I play clean, but if I was given the choice of any amp and only one pedal, a two channel amp (probably a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe) and a wah pedal is the choice for me.

Re: Favorite Type of Effects Pedal

Wah. Hands down. I love hearing the masters use wah (like Hendrix) and I love using wah.

Re: Favorite Type of Effects Pedal

Ehhhhhh...... Wahhhhhh.
Close second is a Whammy pedal because of how useful it is with the octave up and down, various harmonies, pitch shifting, and the detune modes act as a chorus effect too, and the whole thing is an expression pedal too so the possibilities are endless. However, I just like the sound of the wah better. I've heard it it more iconic songs than I can count and I sought that sound way earlier on. Guitar AND bass....
You know what? I take it back. I'll stick with whammy. Just for the hell of it.

Delay
Short delay fattens the guitar up dramatically
Longer slapback echoes sound great
Most delay pedals can add chorus to the delayed signal and other neat crap

So delay

Re: Favorite Type of Effects Pedal

I love delay in all its forms. I love Univibe, phasers are great (but I seem to be using them a lot less) and now that I have a really good analog chorus, I'm digging that, but I think my favorite is FUZZ. So many interesting fuzz pedals, they are all so simple but they are just fun to play! Fuzz Face, Big Muff, Tone Bender, Fuzzrite, Fuzz Factory and the off the wall ones... I just enjoy all the harmonics they create that compliments an amp's harmonics.

Re: Favorite Type of Effects Pedal

Delay is my first choice, too. Delay can provide many flavors of ambience and can be trained to do tricks.

Oh, I do love dirt!

There's so many variables and different flavours to be had--I love the hugeosity of a good Muff, and the way a good silicon Fuzz Face seems to demonically possess your strings!

Delay too--washy reverby analog delay.

Those are my favourites.

Re: Favorite Type of Effects Pedal

Great question. Don't know that I have one.

Based on count - it would have to be distortion.

But I do have a major boner for sweet tremolo swells

Of course I love me a lot of different chorus tones too. But delay is awesome…..But I get it. There are guys that set all about teh Overdrives, and the Wah Wah, etc….

Re: Favorite Type of Effects Pedal

UniVibe. With one of these throbbing through a loud ass amplifier no one needs drugs. It's not my most used effect, but it's by far my favourite.

Re: Favorite Type of Effects Pedal

A good looper.
A delay with a long delay time and expression control of feedback.

Re: Favorite Type of Effects Pedal

I really like a well placed flanger. Unchained is an obvious example, and Coma by GN'R has a really cool flanging riff near the end.

Re: Favorite Type of Effects Pedal

It's not my most used effect, but it's by far my favourite.

I only use Wah for a few songs as well (versus distortion or chorus which I use extensively) but it's by far my favorite. I always have a wah pedal of some kind and it was the first pedal I ever got (a Dunlop CB-95). There's just something awesome about it.

Re: Favorite Type of Effects Pedal

Delay, Reverb and Leslie rotating speaker cabinet swirl.

Re: Favorite Type of Effects Pedal

All of them

Delay and fuzz are tops so they're above them all and don't even get rated. After that it goes something like this:

1) Phaser
2) Wah
3) Univibe
4) Ring Modulator
5) Rotary simulator
6) Flanger
7) Chorus
8) Tremolo

Everything else
