Favourite Headstock Shapes.

I realise that posting a thread about headstocks here is a bit like going to the Playboy forums and posting about foot fetishes but I've seen a lot of threads about new guitars where guys have said stuff like, "Yeah, that looks awesome...I could never get over the headstock shape, though".

So, they obviously matter and we should definitely have a thread about'em. Post your favourites.

I, for one, think that the classic Strat shape is pretty hard to beat but, unlike a lot of people, I don't really have a preference between the bigger or smaller, pre-CBS or after.

I'm also a complete sucker for these babies...

Just to be surreal/awkward, I'm going to nominate Steinberger.

electric:
electric headstocks are tougher for me. it all depends on the body style. strat headstocks look awful on teles, unless it's a tele deluxe in which case a regular tele headstock looks terrible. gibson headstocks are more than perfect for LPs and SGs. all depends on the body style i guess!

Actually, for a long while , hated this James Tyler headstock

But now, i dont hate it nor adore it. I think the process of loving this design is still improving :)

Re: Favourite Headstock Shapes.

Christ, dude, could you have gotten a bigger picture? That one's just not detailed enough for my liking.

Don't get me wrong, I looooove SGs...but I've never really liked the Gibson headstock. Maybe it's because it's kind of become the standard for 3+3 or something but it's always just seemed really plain and boring to me.

Number one for me is this one:

Number 2 I think has to be this one...and I wish I still had this whole guitar, what a screamer!

It's funny...with CBS heads I only like them upside down!

I love my 'bergers, but I also like the Ernie Ball/Music Man and Brian Moore 4+2 headstocks. I don't like the weight and balance issues most headstocks bring, but it is hard to compare unless you had been playing headless for awhile. If you leave tradition/fetishising/iconography out of it, headless makes a lot more sense from an ergonomic/balance standpoint. And the fact you can change a set of strings in under a minute.
