Favourite Metal Guitars?

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

recently fell in love with some ibanez premium/prestige/iron label stuff. great, clear dimarzio humbuckers, jumbo frets and a very comfortable contoured body.

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

Depends on the type of metal. I wouldn't play a seven string for Black Sabbath type stuff.

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

A good Soloist; compound radius, neck profile and absent neck joint win it for me. No excuses if you can't play it on one.

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

Charvel Superstrat (bolt-on, Strat head, Floyd, at least a bridge HB)
Jackson Soloist
ESP neck-thru MH or Horizon
Ibanez RG or UV7

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

Best - Schecter Diamond Series Omen 6 with EMG 81 85 and Afterburner booster.
Worst - Ibanez Prestige, what a waste of wood.

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

I'm fond of Ibanez and Les Paul answers
As that's what I have

I suppose the Charvel / Jackson answer works too

I have seen metal played on Telecasters as well

Dean makes some metal Vees
As does Gibson and Jackson

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

Jackson Soloist
Jackson Dinky
Ibanez RG
Flying V type
King V type

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

It think the Jackson King V is the ultimate metal guitar. This beast is a shredder for sure. Mine is a neck thru with EMG 81 & 85 pickups.

Here's another favourite of mine that suits metal music well. It's an '89 Yamaha RGX Custom that plays pretty amazing.

And here's my black Gibson SG for those Black Sabbath moments.

Why? Because basswood? Just curious.

I have two (with upgraded pickups btw) that I find just soooo comfy to play on for long sessions.

Wouldn't consider them even close to the most "manly" of my small collection, being so sleek and light, but with chunky pups and/or a boost with lows they're really good IMO.

Of course the neck dimensions are also a turn-off to some, but to me they're very close to ideal in depth, width and radius.
The frets themselves are just a small-notch bigger than my preference though, but it's OK with the neck being so thin.(18mm on rg2570&1570)

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

I play a lot of Metal and have no guitar brand preference for the style. My preference is purely based on the guitar itself and whether I like it and much more importantly the pick ups in it. (Taking Amp and Speakers out of the equation which are a much bigger part of the picture) Currently, I use a PRS CU24 with a Suhr Aldrich, Hamer Monco Elite with a Motor City Afwayu, Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid with an EMG 81X and a PRS Tremonti SE with a Black Winter set.

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

As long as it's short scale, 43 mm nut width, and with an ebony fretboard I should be good to go. But, the Jackson King V may be my favorite single guitar for it's looks, B.C. Rich is my favorite brand overall, and my Washburn PXL10 maybe my favorite I own to play.

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

Fender strat standard and swipe pickguard for 2 pickups , bareknuckle warpig in bridge and neck the kinman avn 69, killer!

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

I got 3 guitars, Korean LTD Horizon 1001 Deluxe, MIJ Jackson DK2S and MIJ Charvel Model 5 and to be honest LTD smokes them both. Better fret leveled, the best tremolo and stunning playability. I am medium action player and my Jackson would definately need fret leveling job if i wanted to play it with action i preffer. The action on it right now is high, otherwise it buzzes and have dead notes at higher frets. Charvel is ok, the pickups on are ok, but nothing special, actually i found them a bit muddy. The best playable guitar is definately LTD, the second one is Charvel and the last Jackson. It's strange because i expected much better things about that Jackson, but i got used to JB and the sound from it is superior for leads.

Re: Favourite Metal Guitars?

My Charvels work nicely, as does my Kramer Pacer. Matter of fact.. The more I play this old Kramer, the more it blows my mind. Stock except for a large brass block. I REALLY REALLy wish I still had my Washburn WM526.. That guitar was designed from top to bottom for da brootz!
