Re: Favourite tuning?

I play in C (standard tuning down 2 steps) I've been doing this for years so to me it is standard. I do some work in drop Bb too (Bb F Bb Eb G c)

Damn, man. That's heavy. What kind of music? (I would assume metal.)

Re: Favourite tuning?

playing in C is like medium death metal(think melodic death from sweden like arch enemy, dismember and so on) it sounds cool and heavy but doens't get muddy.

Re: Favourite tuning?

Standard. Otherwise I'd have to use heavy gauge strings to be able to play without rubberbands.

Re: Favourite tuning?

Drop-A, then C, then D hehe...

Since I have Drop-A and standard at the same time, I guess I like them both the most lol

yea i play metal but alot of other stuff too, some classic rock, some blusey stuff, pink floyd-ish stuff, along with some experimental/hardcore things. I just play whatever i feel like when i plug into my amp, I've just grown accustomed to playing two steps down.

Do you have to use particularly heavy gauge strings to compensate?

Yes, i've done alot of experimenting and i found that D'Addario 0.12 - 0.52 gauges work the best for me. They stay in tune better than any other gauge i've tried, farily easy to bend (at least easier than 0.13s) My friend john who is an amazing blues/rock guitarist usually plugs my Lp in when he comes over and said it's not that much of a difference from his Lp in standard tuning with 0.10s on it, just a little more tension, but not that much.

Re: Favourite tuning?

Standard and C# are funnest to play in, for me.

Re: Favourite tuning?

Standard!! I also Drop-D and will frequently play Standard 1/2 down (Eb) when jamming with Stevie and other artists who lower... But my absolute favorite is Standard A=440hz...

I have been trying to reinforce my relative pitch... constantly changing the tuning really screws with progress.... Yes, I sing the intervals along with some of my solos and routines in an attempt to have an audio map of the fretboard burned into memory....
