Feeler post. Possible long shot.

I’m possibly looking for a pickup from the Custom family to put in my LP.
Maybe a long shot but I’m hoping to find a double cream bridge pup at a reasonable price.
Doesn’t matter which Custom variant as I’ll likely mag swap with this pickup.

I took that out a while ago. I have Fokin pickups in it now. I like them but in this guitar there’s a whole lotta mids goin on. Lol
Not that that’s a bad thing, but I have been curious to try a Custom.
I actually thought about putting the Dimarzio back in but it’s got a chrome cover and I have no idea what color the bobbins are underneath. I tried to check yesterday but couldn’t see.

Re: Feeler post. Possible long shot.

I bet a Custom 5 would sound great in that guitar

Re: Feeler post. Possible long shot.

If you really want a double cream custom there is a way to do it, you order a zerbra custom and a reverse zebra custom. You steal the cream bobbins and make your pickup, put the black ones together to sell to defray your costs into the ordeal. Not the cheapest way to do it but is sure fire.

Sadly its what ive had to resort to in the past.

Ha!
I thought of that.
I’ve never disassembled a pickup so I’m not all that confident in my ability to do that.
I emailed Duncan a little while ago and asked if buying one with a cover installed is still an option.
The pickups I have in the guitar currently are great, I was just hoping to find a more scooped vibe. But I can absolutely live with what’s in there now.
Also thought of adding an eq pedal, but my board is already too big.

The last time i asked was a big old negative but maybe you will have better luck. Never hurts to ask.

The disassembling the pickup is simple is basically 4 screws the only tricky part is getting the tape back on looking nice. I generally dont even use the old tape again i just retape it completely. Electrical tape works fine but i bought the correct ribbon tape from stew mac for a few bucks.

Re: Feeler post. Possible long shot.

Just got my response from Duncan.
They are no longer making any double cream pickups at all.

Not surprised. The last response I got from them was that the only way you could get double cream was on an antiquity and they were sold randomly like the original PAF's were.

If you cant find it on youtube the hybrid thread has all the info you need.

If you just gotta have double creams you can get them from bare knuckle in the UK also.

I was looking at the BKP site today. I have a Rebel Yell set in chrome...great pickups.
But wow...$130 for one pickup.

I think if anything id just grab a reverse zebra and throw it in there.
But I’ll probably just keep what I have and maybe I’ll run across a D Cream someday and grab it. If not, it’s ok too.

Re: Feeler post. Possible long shot.

For double cream
Custom you’re talking pre-2000’s or
even earlier. Can be found if you are patient.

Re: Feeler post. Possible long shot.

You can occasionally get double cream Duncans used, though they're getting harder to find.
Anything in the Custom family could of course be mag swapped.

As a last resort, MJ can rewind any double cream humbucker to Custom specs.

Feeler post. Possible long shot.

I actually just adjusted the pickup height of the pickups currently in the guitar.
I put a nickel under the low E string screw coil and raised the pickup until there was a slight drag on the coin.
I lowered the neck pickup a hair and now there is zero mud/low end flub under gain.
I feel like the pickups sound more “alive” now....and they sounded pretty damn good before.

As far as the Duncan goes...I’m hoping to stumble across something used if possible.

But as mentioned, a rewind is definitely an option I hadn’t thought of.

I have a double cream JB that I've been meaning to have rewound. Just never seem to get around to it.

Re: Feeler post. Possible long shot.

I have a double white MJ-wound Duncan custom that has somewhat darkened, not quite to creme, but darker than the original white it was. For the right price or trade, i would be willing to part with it.

Got a pic?
And what are you looking to get for it? Or trade for it?
