Fellow fuzz nerds...have you seen these?

Re: Fellow fuzz nerds...have you seen these?

I have seen the fuzz face, HA!

I like how they are small! :)

Re: Fellow fuzz nerds...have you seen these?

At the pedal show, I got to talk to the owner of Hartman for awhile, and the subject of the mini fuzz faces came up.
We both agreed that it was such a good idea, it's hard to believe nobody beat Dunlop to the punch.

Re: Fellow fuzz nerds...have you seen these?

I was excited about the idea of these guys until Scott at BMF posted that he won't be offering mods for them because of the difficulties of working with SMD tech without the proper tools. Oh well.

I mean, they sound all right, but I've learned that Fuzz Faces are one of the most difficult pedals to try and get a feel for from demos. They just feel so alive under your fingers that you can't judge how it will sound at all from a demo.

Re: Fellow fuzz nerds...have you seen these?

There was a mini Fuzz Face in the works from another company but that didn't pan out.

The Mini Fuzz Faces are cool I guess, they are what a lot of guys seem to want.

I like Fuzz Faces so I don't care what box they are in as long as they are good builds but if I was going to pick a pedal based on looks it wouldn't be those...I think old Fuzz Faces look killer so that's what I've stuck with...

All that said I'm not trying to cram 47 pedals on a Pedaltrain board so "mini" boxes have little appeal to me anyway.

I also HATE that the mini's are nearly impossible to work on, tweak or mod...

Re: Fellow fuzz nerds...have you seen these?

I think these look brilliant, but I have a SunFace and have no intention of falling prey to tgwif's sickness! :)

Re: Fellow fuzz nerds...have you seen these?

They look like a "Cabbage Patch Kids" version of the Fuzzface. Not slagging it - the form factor is definitely more practical while paying homage to the original.

Re: Fellow fuzz nerds...have you seen these?

You have no choice in the matter.
Sure I do. I am not a collector of things, never have been. Having more than one version of the same thing ain't my bag. Variety is the spice of life! To a Fuzz Face addict, I am sure there are enough differences between one and another to warrant collecting em all like Pokemon, and to the outsider, probably ALL of my pedals do the same thing as far as they can see. But, for my limited resources, I would rather have a little of everything. I have a couple of redundancies, mostly due to space limitations and not being able to drag the really big stuff to gigs and rehearsals (Maestro fuzz, Roland Space Echo). But otherwise, I follow the one-of-each philosophy.

One thing I'd like to know is why the need for micro components when a fuzz face could probably already fit in there anyway? I'm sure surface mount warrants no sound difference and is cheaper, but us guitar players hear differences in tweed vs tolex lol.

LOL!

I've read that someone (I think it was Eric Johnson, correct me if I'm wrong) sets different pedals at different angles on his board because he claims he can hear the difference.

Re: Fellow fuzz nerds...have you seen these?

Well SMD stuff has been used in ages, everywhere else but in the music industry of guitars related equipment:)
No you cannot hear the difference, there are none!
It is a part, and the tolerances is what matters, small or big has no big meaning.
In the latter years, pedals have been hardpressed to cram all that stuff into the enclosures, as jacks and such takes up alot of space, and functions has been in demand.
Micro controllers are now more common, plus the factories works more around the clock, and for that machines are great....SMD is easy to use, and needs no holes through the PCB....stick on your parts with a machine, run it through the wave solder bath.... takes no time, only little manual work is required!

They sound as good as the big ones. I like them because they're cute.

Y'know get a mini Squier Strat and a mini Fuzz Face and an AC4 for your kid or nephew. Be the coolest dad or uncle ever, ever.

And you get to inherit it back when they quit. :)
