Fende r Road worn Series

Re: Fende r Road worn Series

I can see a slogan for 'em right now. "Fender Road Worn Series, we beat the hell out of 'em so you don't have to."

Re: Fende r Road worn Series

...I have an idea.

The Fender Guitar Lease Program.*

You lease a New Strat or Tele, give it back after 2-3 years. ( Most people turn over guitars every few years anyway. ) Then Fender sells them as “Certified Used” or “Road Worn”

1) Cheaper than buying a new guitar ( If you are the one leasing or buying used )
2) Gets a real world pounding!
3) Fender makes money twice!

Anyway what’s the deal with these? I want to be the one that beats the crap out of my guitar! I don’t get paying a $1000 for a F-ed up guitar.

* Hey Fender I came up with idea so if you do it I want my $$$$$$!

I seriously doubt that most people (as in over 50% of guitarists) replace their guitars every 2 or 3 years.

50% of Guitarists, Guitar enthusiasts or players on this site may not turn over guitars that fast.

But I’d say that’s only 25% (At the very most) of total Guitar buying public.

I turn over guitars every 2 or 3 years and I think I fall in the above group. I’m hard on my Guitars…my band has a “high energy stage show”.

Anyways I work in a music store and the replace rate is high for the average joe.

I see a ton of middle aged impulse buying, and mommy I need to have this type of crap. Most of all those go to eBay, pawnshops or back to the store they got it from.

I know if Gibson had a lease program I’d think about it. Also the last two Gibson’s I bought were Used…turned around by owners that wanted something different, better or just gave up playing.

Re: Fende r Road worn Series

You all know by now that I'm an avid relic fan ;)
Yes, I do, therefore I hope you don´t take this as personal in any way... i´m just not a fan of factory installed damage ;)

But I honestly have to say that I think the Road Worn series, produces to a price and at such a mass that everyone and his mom will own one, will kill the whole relic trend in a few years.
Please satan let it be so!

Both my experience as a player and my experience in retail show that for the most part this is not the case. Most people (that follow up at all, about 50% of the people that buy a guitar you´ll never see again) buy a better second guitar 2-3 years later. Or a really good guitar about 5 years later. In only about 10% of the cases it there the idea of a trade in or similar.

The reason it works for cars but not for guitars is because cars advance in technology much faster, the car you lease in 4 years may well be light years ahead what you´re driving today. But the difference between a 2005 AM Std strat and a 2009 AM Std strat aren`t exactly groundbreaking new technological ideas ;)

You could buy a used mim and drag it across the parking lot, then let it rust, and have the same thing for a lot less! An aged, new guitar. What a concept. I say let them relic naturaly.
Besides, If you show up somewhere playing a 40+ year old looking guitar, playing smoke on the water badly....
