I was recently at Fenders Website and they showed a "new" Fender '57 : Twin :) being released with specs and all. I went to Guitar center to see about playing through one and they had never heard of it. :yell: Does anyone here know when this Amp will be available? Thanks DS

Dave,
it's a hand wired copy of the tweed Twin, even down to the double rectifiers.

I don't know when they'll be available - that's a good question for a Fender dealer, but you're likely to get more info over on the Fender forum.

from what I remember, even the low power Twins were said to have a huge, powerful bottom.

Re: Fender '57 Twin

The specs say that it only weighs 44 pounds. Can that possibly be right for a 2x12? People are going to be lining up around the block for this thing.

44 lbs sounds about right - I think the Bassman LTD is about 52 lbs, and the weight difference would mostly be in the speaker magnets

I think the $3000 list, and probably $1800 street price will keep that line fairly small, though :)
(actually, that's pretty reasonable these days for a hand wired amp)

Re: Fender '57 Twin

Dave I think I saw one out by me I'll swing by and take a look and let you know.

Re: Fender '57 Twin

Gee, that looks really nice. I'll have to play one. I love that kind of look, and having a Twin like that would be great.

Re: Fender '57 Twin

I saw the new Frontline catalog with the new handwired Bassman and Twin, but can't remember if the Twin had reverb. Anyone know?

I have no idea which one I'd like better. I can't wait to see both side by side somewhere. This Tweed Twin is like the original, only they yanked two tubes out, making it a 50 watt Twin. I just wish the RCA Bassman circuit allowed a spring reverb to be in the amp. There's something about the bassman/vintage Marshall circuit that gets sucked dry by reverb.
Robert Hudson from Blues Pearl tried to explain it to me once. Holland tried a design where only 1 out of the 4 speakers had reverb, to preserve the circuit's tone. I've never fully understood all of it.

joneser,
the Twin is hand wired, the Bassman isn't - it uses the same circuit board as before. The twin is true to the original - no reverb. Reverb was added during the blackface years - some say to add a little ambience back into the newer circuit. You will find plenty of comments from players who say they don't miss reverb with a resonant pine cab

I think of the fat bluesy tweed sound as a whole different sound than something like the blackface reverb tone, but mixing the two could be cool

Re: Fender '57 Twin

OK the one at the shop was the new 59 Bassman, nice amp! but alas not the Twin. He has one on order since NAMM, hoping it hits soon. Said to expect it to go for around $2100, it is being sold as a Custom Shop amp.

Re: Fender '57 Twin

you can build one for a grand. mojotone and marshamps have kits. I'd rather buy from bruce at Mission, but I don't think he will have a kit for a low powered twin anytime too soon, but you never know. might just have to ask him.

Re: Fender '57 Twin

Joneser, Fender also has a "stand alone" vintage style reverb tank!! based on the "old" design. I don't know what they run, but it could be a welcomed addition to this Amp. I think I would miss reverb. I currently play thru a 69' Super and just love the reverb!!. But if the Amp(57 twin) will sound as good as I anticipate it will.... It may be a small sacrifice!!
