To buy or not to buy, that is the question. :22:

:laugh2: ok, so I've tried this thing out on various occasions, and it seems to suit me. Do you think it's worth buying? I really need to get rid of this Peavey Bandit, so yeah :D

Thanks!
William

Re: Fender '59 Bassman

Heck yeah, those are awesome amps.... if they seem to fit your style, i'd say go for it.

i assume you're talking about the reissue, if you're going from a peavy bandit to this... cuz the real things cost $$$ out the wazoo... are you looking at the slightly older '59 bassman, or the new production Bassman LTD.?? The new LTD seems like it'd be pretty happening, its got a solid pine cabinet, a lacquered tweed finish (which i love), as well as a few other changes i believe.

Re: Fender '59 Bassman

those things apperntally cost big bucks. Ive seen them in stores never tired them but they do have a hefty price tag.

The reissue LTD. And I'm sure I could afford the original, but what for? lol. Reissue is good enough for me :)

The price on the reissue is very reasonable. $849 CDN in my neck of the woods. (I break the guy down for deals XD)

Re: Fender '59 Bassman

If you need a bluesy, roots rock tone, it's the amp for you.
If you're looking for rock, metal, or gainy tones, you'd be better off with a Marshall or Mesa. I'm assuming you know the Bassman is for you, since you're contemplating it.
To be honest, I've had a Bassman 4-10 reissue, then tried the same amp with 2 Celestion's....the Bassbreaker. I liked it more. The bottom is tighter, and the mids are smoother with less honk. The highs are about the same....maybe sweeter on the 4-10. Just something to consider.

Re: Fender '59 Bassman

Another vote for the bassbreaker. Killer amp.

The standard bassman ri is a great amp, though.

I've got the gain covered via pedals, I need shimmering cleans.

I've never heard of a Bassbreaker, got any more information on it?

Re: Fender '59 Bassman

I would go with a Peavey CLassic 50 410 and mod it. In fact, there is a mod to convert it to Bassman specs, and you might be able to pick up a Classic 50 much cheaper.

Re: Fender '59 Bassman

I'd get the Bassman but swap out the SS rectifier for a tube one... its simple to do, the ss one pops right out and the tube one just pops right back in.

Re: Fender '59 Bassman

The bassman strikes me as namp to give you sort of warm cleans, shimmering cleans is twin turf.

Re: Fender '59 Bassman

the bassbreaker is/was (not sure if they still make it) a custom shop peice, that was basically the 59 circuit, but with 2x12s instead of the 4x10s. They're pretty sweet too, and definitely worth checking out if you have the opportunity.

Re: Fender '59 Bassman

that laquered 59 bassman ri is my dream amp!!!

go for it will!!!

Re: Fender '59 Bassman

I love the 59 Bassman RI. The LTD get my vote b/c the regular is almost ehe same price. For 45/50 (depending on recto) watts it sounds killer. Lot's of folks don't like the 10's but I do. I think they keep your sound from getting muddy. My personal favorite combo is 12's AND 10's. The 10' pour out the mids and highs and the 12's cranks out the lows. Also the 10's seem more focused in distortion and more airy in clean. The open back cab fills the whole room with sound instead of being unidirectional it's omnidirectional. Extra gain can be achieved (well) with any decent pedal. This is the only amp I've messed with that almost any pedal sounded good with. I ran my heritage into it (minus the A2P bridge) with a metal zone and it sang. I'd like to hear it with a Budda Zenman, Phatman, or a Mesa V-twin.

A bargain and a gem I say go for it.

ok, shimmering isn't the right word then, lol.

Re: Fender '59 Bassman

i play through one almost every friday night when my daughter is taking piano lessons....

i'll grab a tele or strat and just sit down beside it and play and shoot the bull with the guys who work there....man i LOVE that amp!!!!!!!

Re: Fender '59 Bassman

You should always be able to find a used Bassman Reissue for around $600. the LTD for around $800, and the Bassbreaker, $850-$900. I've actually considered making my next tweed amp a Fender Bassbreaker. I like the Vibroking too! Consider spending more for a used Vibroking....it's like the bassman with 3 knob reverb.
