Fender American Professional Strat HSS

Just picked one of these up today as a Father's day present to myself :) http://www.guitarcenter.com/Fender-USA-Professional-Standard-Stratocaster-HSS-109726554-i3431595.gc

It actually sounds pretty good but I hate the zebra pu in this guitar. What were they thinking? It has the s1 switching that allows you to split the hb and get nice strat tones in mid/bridge position.

From what I've read, for this spltting to work well you need a fairly strong HB (around 12k or higher). Of course, this will make it louder when in non-split mode, bridge only. I wouldn't mind a bit more output on the bridge but nothing too radical.

Any suggestions on one that might split well? An added bonus would be one with an antiqueish white cover that would match the existing colors.

Thanks,
Rut

Also, Do I have to worry about pole spacing on these? Will they work well on a strat or do you have to request special spacing?

JB trembucker. Great split tones. Trembucker if you care about the strings/poles matching up.

If it "actually sounds pretty good" but you just don't like the zebra look, just get some white bobbin toppers to put on the top of the black coil. Pretty simple and cheap.

I actually like the look of the zebra.
Don't waste money, maybe you too will come to appreciate it.

I'm with wolf5150 here. After all, I built these.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. I used to have several guitars with similar setups (and loved the look), but now I'm with the OP and like a more uniform look.

Re: Fender American Professional Strat HSS

How do these American Professional Strats stack up against American Standards? Are they made and finished as well?

Re: Fender American Professional Strat HSS

How about the new Perpetual Burn or a Custom Custom?

Re: Fender American Professional Strat HSS

I think the Perpetual Burn would probably mesh well with singles, but I don't know how it would sound with 250K pots. I have a Custom Custom in my strat with 2 fat 50's single coils.
