Fender amp making noises

i was jamming with some friends tonight and my 10 year old Fender Ultimate Chorus amp i use for messing around with started making some weird noises.... there was a low hum coming from the amp that was audiable no matter if the volume was on or off on my guitar... and it was sounding like it was shorting out as i played.... snaps and crackles like static with the amp cutting in and out

i've heard problems like this in my tube amps... when the Caps are dying... could this be the same issue in a SS amp like this one?

part of me wondered if it had anything to do with the power supply in this old farm house we were jamming in...

Bad jack, maybe? That would jive with the cutting in and out while you play part.

ya i was thinking that but it really didn't seem to have much to do with the cord and or guitar.... the low end noise really reminded me of my original 65 Deluxe with bad Caps..... just a hell of a hum coming out of the amp even when i didn't have the guitars volume on...

i'm going to fire it up today at home and see if it starts the same business.... if it does i'll have it in the shop later this week...

ps the reverb was dead on this unit when i bought it.... it was repaired but makes me wonder if the noise i'm getting is from that circuit

Re: Fender amp making noises

i turned my Ultimate Chorus on this morning and it was making this awful static hum noise even without a guitar cord plugged into it.. so it's in the shop.... i also finally sent in my modded JCM 800 to be quieted down and returned to stock
