Fender AVRI and serial number on neck plate?

What years for Fender AVRI would and would not have a neck plate with serial number?

These things aren't very well marked

Fifties style Telecaster re-issues have the serial number on the bridge plate. Any era when the serial number of an original piece should have been a decal on or under the varnish on the headstock.
