Fender Bass VI questions

I've been diggin these guitars for a while now, but not the price on the reissue ones. My question is this: could you buy a neck from usacustomguitars, which is the Bass VI 30" scale length and slap the thing on a tele/strat body to achieve the same effect? I'm concerned about string spacing and whether or not I will be able to achieve the same scale length that will allow me to tune it E-e like the original Bass VI without a lot of adjustment. Also, if the string spacing works, will I be able to string this thing up thru the tremolo on the strat or the string thru body of a tele? I'd buy the Fender Bass VI strings. Thanks for your help.

Re: Fender Bass VI questions

Ok, first...a Bass VI neck on a Tele or a Strat won't work...the body on a Bass VI is set up for a 30 inch scale where Strats and Tele's are set up for 25.5 inchs, it simply won't work.

As for the ball ends in the Strat or Tele bridge, since the idea won't work anyway it doesn't really matter but the answer to this is no...the ball ends on a set of Bass VI strings is MUCH larger than a Strat or Tele bridge will accept.

If you want a Bari in the form of a Tele or Strat USACH as well as others make a Bariotone conversion neck that WILL bolt up to a standard Strat or Tele and the scale length is about 27.75 inch or so...HOWEVER, these instruments will not work in E-E tuning no matter whatr yo do...sure you could use heavy gauge strings and tune down but the intonation is terrible as is the tone quality at that point.

If you want a 30" scale E-E baritone the Bass VI is a choice, Schecter makes one, Music Man makes one and there is an OLP version of the MM for less money but those are the only 4 I know of short of a few hard to find Danelectro's...

Re: Fender Bass VI questions

About 70 gauge string will give a good balance of tension and intonation for a low low E. The rest of the strings would be like regular guitar strings. But you're right; the longer scale helps the intonation of the fatty fat string.

Schecter Hellcat/VI are great and they 'might' be coming out with a Robert Smith model. That's what im holding out for!
