Just tried one at my local Fender dealership.

In my opinion, the amp is extremely versatile. Plenty of gain. The EQ controls really do something. The built-in reverb does what Fender claim. It is smooth and unobtrusive.

All in all, a fine home and studio amplifier.

Drawbacks?
1) The blinking pilot light in standby/mute mode.
2) The one sound that it never quite manages is the classic, sweet and glassy 6L6/6V6 one that most of us associate with Fender.

Very cool, nice to see some feedback on one of these finally. I am very intrested in this amp line. It is my impression that these lean more towards the early Marshall amps. I am not supprised you did not get the glassy 6L6 vibe. As a guitaris I have to ask, how loud was the little bugger? I know you couldn't peg it in a store but it seem to have a bit off beef behind it?

Re: Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo

Are you sure it didn't have EL84's?

Re: Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo

BB15 is definitely EL84-powered. This, in my opinion, is why it sounds as it does. It competes in the same market sector as the H&K Tubemeister 18. i.e. Practice and recording. It isn't really loud enough for gigs.

Re: Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo

I got a chance to play the Bassbreaker 45 a couple of weeks back while visiting Portland, OR. I was pleasantly surprised by the sound. Smooth, and fairly responsive to pick dynamics and volume knob manipulation. Even when choked down to the 1 watt setting.

Re: Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo

Played one at a local GC and absolutely loved it! Great lil amp that gets some excellent drive tones. Wasn't too impressed by the cleans BUT for the price I was pleasantly surprised.

Re: Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo

I just ordered a 45w combo amp and it arrived today. Very nice sound. Nice as clean as most Fenders...little more crunch and punch though. Loud!

Re: Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo

The higher wattage ones had specs that got my attention. Kudos to Fender for continuing to come out with new "old" stuff. They are nice looking as well.

Re: Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo

I love these little guys. They're kinda copping Orange's design philosophy of simple, good-sounding amps. Nothing fancy, just tone. If i wasn't already swimming in amps I'd grab the 15 for my house and the 45 for gigs and be done with it.

Re: Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo

The 45 watt is essentially a plexi (1986 model) with power scaling from 45- to only 1 watt. A very good idea. If I didn't already have a Metro JTM45 I would probably buy it. Might still be on the look out for the head down the road anyway.

Re: Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo

Not that I need to put another amp on my list to buy, but the 45 or the 18/30 are very tempting. Mostly the 45, since I don't really have an amp in that style.

Naw, they're just taking back what Marshall stole.

Re: Fender Bassbreaker 15 combo

I was supposed to come home with one of them, a little bit bigger mind you. Somehow I ended up coming back with this "WHITE ELEPHANT" instead!!! I keep telling my girl that when I die they can just burry me inside the 2x12, there's plenty of room!!!

The Bassbreaker was an amazing amp and there's no denying that big fat tone would be awesome to have, maybe one day? I do really love the Bandmaste! Although I'm convinced it's going to electrocute me to death one day!!! There's nothing wrong with it, the plug has been changed out to a three prong, it's been checked out by a tech, Exc....
Old Sliverface's just scare the hell out of me! I've seen them in various forms put more than one person on their a$$ before so every time I turn it on I wonder if it's going to be my turn today... LOL!!!
