Fender Bassman

What do you think about this? It looks perfect for me. I'd take the amp out of my Marshall combo and run the additional 3x10's from the Bassman if possible. A Bassman with 5x10's, cool!

it's a cool amp...no longer vintage, but still not hurt, and I like the idea...but running that with a 3x10 ext cab could create a funky impedence (the impedence from the 3x10 is already pretty odd) and really cause you problems and hurt the amp...

What if the Marshall cab was wired in series at 16ohms and the Fender amp was running it's 2x10 (8ohm speakers I guess) in series. That makes two loads of 16ohms, so the entire rig would run at 8 ohms. Is that right? I always get a little lost when trying to stay on top of speaker setups. Does anybody know if the the Bassman can operate at 8 ohms? I'm sure it must be able to. Also, does anybody know if the Bassman will have a speaker extension output?

it's able to run at 8, but it's not really supposed to. If i'm correct on this (and i'm probably not) a new output transformer can change the impedance, and the guy says this one needs a new one anyways. With a 5x10 you'll have a weird impedance anyways. You COULD get a 4x10 from avatar, and all avatar cabs come with output jacks, so all you'd do is plug the bassman's speakers into the input on the avatar, and run a cable from the output of the avatar to the speaker input on your amp. With a 6x10 you can get pretty much any impedance you want, i'd go with 4ohm so you can use a brown OT

I'm not sure about the extension speaker thing, i think it will, i know the blackface & silverface ones had them, but the tweeds didn't, i've never played/seen a brown, though

Amp wants to see 4 ohms. Is the whole marshall cab 16 ohms? That is weird! 5.3 ohm speakers?

You're much better off going straight from the 16 ohm marshall cab to the 2x10 in parallel. A 16 ohm load and a 4 ohm load in parallel yield 3.2 ohms

The amp wouldn't even tell the difference, it wants 4 and it's getting 3.2...alot closer than 8.

It is weird. A while ago I thought about replacing the speakers just as a general upgrade (thank God I didn't, would have been a hell of a waste of money) but couldn't find any 5.3 ohm speakers, lol. I think Marshall HQ must have had a bad day all round when they came up with the JTM range. Can you imagine them all sitting round thinking about how they were responsible for the JTM45's, SLP's and JCM800's yet still managed to convince themselves that the JTM60 was a good idea! Unbelievable!

So you think I'd be better off shifting the JTM altogether, cab and all, then buying 4x10 4 ohm speakers or 2x10 8 ohm speakers? I can't imagine a single 2x10 combo sounding very 'big' on it's own so I think I'd definately want to get an extension cab of some sort.

Can someone please explain why 4 ohms and 16 ohms in parrellel makes a total load of 3.2 ohms. I get why two 4 ohm loads makes a total load of 2 ohms, and I guess a 4 ohm load and a 8 ohm load makes a total load of 3 ohms?
