Fender Blacktop Series UK Release information

For Uk users primarily,

I emailed Fender the other day and got a nice responce this morning.

I asked them as regards of wen the blacktop series would be released in the UK and if they were going to do so and also if Left Handed models would be included.

In responce i got this reply:

Dear Bruce



Thanks for your email and interest in Fender© brand products. To answer your question we are currently about to release the Blacktop series of guitars however, these currently have no left handed models in this range. The equivalent in left handed model would be the Standard series guitars which are priced similarly and made in the Mexico factory.

Anyway despite my intital disappointment, i am Grateful for the very kind response, nicely set out and well worded.

so just info so you guys know... anyway looks like it's either a mexi standard or its a Highway 1 for me

man save your pennies and get a Highway 1...

as a dude who's kind of been a strat junkie since he started playing, i've played tons...working at a big box music store has helped me to play tons more than i ever got a chance to before.

time and time again, the Highway 1 guitars are better than most of the other Fender line...they resonate incredibly well and i even like the stock pickups just fine. plus i'm a little biased but i like the big headstock.

i'm a salesman that gets paid on commission but i still hand a Highway 1 to everybody coming by and trying out Custom Shop and American Deluxe Strats...usually a guy trying to talk himself into a $2400 Strat that's pretty nice will plunk down $700 for a Highway 1 without hesitating...they're THAT good.

All the other series and models Fender does is just to make the catalog look pretty...

i like the big headstocks too, all my fav bands i follow used the seventies style stratocasters with large headstocks, check out Fast 'Eddie' Clarke's guitars (ex motorhead and FastWay) and you will see what i mean.

Eventually i will buy two Highway ones so i can convert one to the Lefty Lone star i want to build. and in this country i can pick up a highway one for £380-450 (im a music student with discount cards now)

^ yeah man you can cover a lot of ground with a couple of Highway 1's.

If i had to start from scratch and had to work with a budget, i'd go get a Highway 1 Strat and a Gibson Faded SG Special and be very satisfied.

I have looked up the Highway ones left handed and they do the blue, midnight Wine and honey blonde colors, at the moment i like the blue and the wine! (although cherry red like SG's would be great)

Oh and http://www.wunjoguitars.com have a few South Paw Fenders in at the moment. Plus they tend to have some LH oddities as well. If your ever in London you should head there Brian runs it how a guitar shop should be run.
