hi
i see that his model has not the mid boost now

so a question, is it possible to have his amazing tone with the Eric Clapton signature model?

i think BUDDY GUY used lace sensor pickups + mid boost but the EC model has just vintage noiseless Strat pickups now

Re: Fender Buddy GUY

the eric clapton model used to use lace sensor gold pickups in all 3 spots. not sure which one the buddy guy uses

Re: Fender Buddy GUY

Much as I love Buddy Guy, I don't think his tone in the past ten+ years has been all that great. FWIW, last I read he was using Fender noiseless pickups, not the lace sensors.

Re: Fender Buddy GUY

amazing tone :) for a strat
it sounds like a les paul sometimes and without a mid boost and good pickups =impossible

poor quality but you can like the sound:)

Re: Fender Buddy GUY

There were 2 versions of his sig Strat. A MIM one with the polka dot paint, 21 frets and no mid-boost and a MIA one that was nearly identical to the early Clapton Strats with Gold Lace Sensors and a mid-boost. I tried an ash (I think) bodied MIA about 18 months ago, and I would have probably bought it had I not come across my McCarty. I was surprised at the amount of quack I could get out of the notch position, and the mid-boost was fun.

Re: Fender Buddy GUY

good but nowadays, there are the vintage noiseless pickups
so, i don't know the differences
i will try one day the EC :) model

Re: Fender Buddy GUY

those fender mid boosts are cool with the right rig but dont work with everything. i have a classic stack+ neck and middle with a vintage hot stack+ bridge with the mid boost and its a great setup into tweed amps or my homemade 12w. not as great into my deluxe reverb

Re: Fender Buddy GUY

I had an '89 Custom Shop Strat with Fender Lace Sensors Gold/Vol/TBX/Active Mid-Boost and it was awesome tone-wise. Super wide range of tones but capable of that big awesome tone both Eric and Buddy had around 1990. Thing truly was hi-fidelity and roared!!!

1989 Fender Custom Shop Stratocaster Ultra Prototype #14 of 50...Rare 1989 Fender Custom Shop Prototype Stratocaster Ultra in "Black Pearl Dust", Rosewood Board 22 Fret Neck with Locking Nut and Matching "BPD" Headstock, Gold Lace Pickups, Volume/TBX Tone/MDX Mid-Boost "Clapton Mod", Original Floyd Rose with Big Brass Block, Black Leather Strap with Schaller Straplocks.

I've been seriously tossing around the idea of converting my Charvel to SSS for a couple years. How do the single coil pickups sound with a floyd? Love the look of your guitar!

Re: Fender Buddy GUY

Liked his tone on Bring 'Em In from 2005... didn't get new albums from him in the last ten years. Just didn't get to it, not sure I should complain.

As for Sweet Tea - it is one of my favorite blues albums. I just dug it out a few days ago and were listening to it. There's a video of him performing Baby Please Don't Leave Me live with humbuckers. I didn't like the version, but still, makes me wonder what he was really using in the studio for Sweet Tea.

Thanks! It was nice when I had it. The singles are fine with a Floyd; better control and tone with a Big Brass Blocked Floyd IMHO. I've had a couple set up that way (other one below) and they were fabulous.
