Fender Classic Series

I've been looking around for a good strat for a long time, i'm taking my time before spending some good money on it. I was going to get a MIA strat several months ago but ended up not, but i've still been looking thoroughly. I came across a Fender Classic Series 70's style guitar. new for about 700, ash body, looks really nice, im thinking about finding one and playing it soon if i can find one close. Does anyone have any experience with these models or have any feedback that would be good to know? they are MIM, but there are gems from everywhere, how would these hold up against a MIA standard?? thanks

Re: Fender Classic Series

i own some real nice Gems from the Fender MIM series..... The Classic series out of Mexico is fine vintage style spec Fender guitars on the cheaper end of the price scale... I've seen and played a few 70's MIM reissues that are wonderfull.... a nice sunburst one i saw had the Ritchie Blackmore fan in me drooling!!!!

the one thing i don't like 100% about the more vintage period correct strats is the 7 1/4 radius and small frets... to tell the truth the modern specs of an American Standard Strat is more to my liking... the narrow string spread, the 2 post trem, the 22 frets, and so on... but still a vintage style guitar can be a thing of beauty

my local shop has a nice Surf Green MIM 50's strat in... i've almost bought it many times... can't get past the radius and small frets!

Re: Fender Classic Series

the small frets i wouldnt mind, but the small radius is something that i think would bother me. i havent gotten a chance to play anything with a radius that small yet so thats the biggest apprehension i have. ill see how it feels when i get a chacne to go play one. thanks for the feedback

for some players it's not an issue having such a sharp radius.... it feels amazing for playing chords i admit... but the sharp radius combined with the wide string spread at the bridge makes fretting out higher up the neck easier... at least i found so.... to me it needs higher action to work... The wide string spread has the strings on an angle across the sharp radius...
