Fender company for sale!

Here is an interesting link that came up in a Google search. I wonder if Gibson will try to buy them. Scary thought.

They are private so maybe they are going public to allow the rest of the employees to cash out. They are riding high at the moment so maybe they feel this is the time to do it.

Man, some of you have very little concept of business and industry. FMIC is the biggest instrument maker after Yamaha (which doesn't really count since they make other stuff like motorcycles etc.). If anything it would be Fender buying Gibson, but that would never happen either.

FMIC is probably looking for a large corporate parent because they either want to expand, the owners want out, or a combination of both. As the article said, FMIC is valued at half a billion, and there aren't many companies out there who could swing that. We're talking something along the lines of GE, 3M, Microsoft ... you know, a massive company.

Deja vu, anyone?

I think he means what a lot of people say. Very, very well built instrument, but he has no connection with it what so ever, and therefore even though it is very well made in every possible sense, he will never be able to be happy with one. It's all a question of chemistry with your instrument. Either you like it or you don't.

Yeah, that is old news. After that came out Fender followed up within a couple days explaining it wasn't for sale, instead it was some sort of financial exercise their number crunchers go through to try and determine the value of the company.

phil summed it up pretty nicely.

PRS are just too fancy for me to take seriously. They look good in like jazz ensembles and supporting pop acts, where everybody's dressed up in a tux or something, but they clash hard with black t-shirts and ripped jeans, unlike say an SG or a beat up old Strat...

Anyway...good to hear Fender's not gonna be bought out by anybody square. The LAST thing we need is $20,000 custom shop Strats.

And yeah, I think I agree with ya man, for some reason while I liked PRSs I never LIKED them enough to justify the price and the high maintenance that goes with 'em.

However a guitar with VERY similar rep that I DO mesh with are Carvins.
I also get that cold and detached thing from them as well but for some reason I feel like when I pick up one I get/give (however you see it) all the warmth and "fuzzyness" I'd want.

Weird...

I don't think Gibson would buy fender for the pure reason that competition is a good thing.

Then on the other hand I don't think Gibson sees Fender as a competition. You don't see Gibson making Strat Copies (Closest is that 3 Single SG), and Fender doesn't enter Gibson territory (Only a couple Mahogany Models that aren't big).

They don't touch each other at all, so they must have some sort of understanding.
