Re: Fender Concert amps
1963 was a transition year for the Fender Concert, they went from the Brown tolex/brown face to the black tolex/black face and the circut from one to the other is ery different. The started the Brown Concert in 1959 and there wsa never a Blond Concert that I know of...
The Brown Concert was a 2 channel (one normal, one with vibrato), 4x10, no reverb, 40 watt, SS rectified Fender Combo amp. The Brown tolex amps are not as clean and chimey as a BF but they are not as raw as a Tweed either...the Brown COncert sort of bridges the gap between a 4x10 Tweed bassman and a BF Super Reverb.
The best part about the 4x10 brown Concert is the vibrato circut, which unlike a BF Vibrato (which is really a mis named tremolo circut) it really is a a true vibrato...there is a mild pitch shift to the circut and it sounds amazing! It is my fav vib circut ever but it uses two and a half 12AX7's to work and Leo did away with that circut to be able to have reverb without having to use 9 or 10 preamp tubes.
Im pretty sure the amp you saw was a Brown Concert and you're right...they are great amps! One of the other Fenders I have to have one day!
