Fender Custom Shop Showmaster...

Cat In The Hatministrator
I popped into Hitchin today, and while my wife was having her hair done for the Battle of Britain Ball tomorrow, I took the opportunity to see what Machinehead Music had in stock.

I've seen it in there a couple of times, but having a little bit of extra time I thought I'd give it a try. It's a 2005 Fender Showmaster from the Custom Shop. Mahogany back, arched flame maple-topped Showmaster body, mahogany glued-in neck, with a black-faced Tele headstock. Standard US trem, and Schaller locking tuners. The fret markers are kinda tribal-looking. 2 SD Pearly Gates buckers, 3-way switch, vol and tone.

Unfortunately I didn't get chance to plug in, but it was so alive acoustically, with notes bouncing out from all over the neck.

I was muchly impressed and if the plugged in sound is anywhere near as good as its acoustic sound, I may just have found what I'd like to get for my 40th next year!!! :D

I also had a play on a bright pink Kramer Baretta, just for giggles...

Re: Fender Custom Shop Showmaster...

Nice top, shame about the inlays, headstock and the metallised spaghetti logo.

I have one Fender Custom Shop guitar. It is very "alive" acoustically. I would very much like another one. :D

Re: Fender Custom Shop Showmaster...

I don't mind the inlays and the Tele headstock, but the logo is a bit naff...

Re: Fender Custom Shop Showmaster...

I remember when Fender had those on their site. They did a horrible job of differentiating between the $2000+ custom shop Showmaster and the $400 MIK Showmaster. They both looked very similar.

The MIK ones were quite well spec'd if I remember right. Didn't they come with Duncans?

Re: Fender Custom Shop Showmaster...

If that didn't have a Tele headstock it would be so much better. However, I'm a bit shallow, and I know it's a fantastic guitar by your description. I hope you get it Stevie....but you may have to sell a hat or two.

I think so. I remember looking over the specs for each and they were almost identical. Maybe rosewood for MIK and ebony for MIA. Granted it was a custom shop model but I didn't see a difference of thousands of dollars. Nice looking guitars though. I considered a MIK one before eventually deciding on my FMT Fat Strat.

Re: Fender Custom Shop Showmaster...

Both look awesome Stevie! :D

If only I hadn't bought the Spalwn that Kramer would be MINE! :D
