Fender Custom Shop Strat

Re: Fender Custom Shop Strat

Or, you get the Classic Vibe '50s version and go on a nice vacation with the $2K you save :)

yeah... just cause they look the same doesnt mean they are even close. even after replacing all the hardware, a fret job and new nut it still wouldnt be the same

From what I understand of the new Classic Vibes, they typically have excellent fretwork from the factory, the hardware is pretty good, they utilize a synthetic bone nut and even have alder bodies to boot. Heck, even the "custom vintage-style" single coil pickups seem to be getting solid reviews.

Perhaps the biggest issue with that particular Classic Vibe model is the neck profile, which is likely a bit thinner than the OP would like.

Either way, I say get what makes you happy. I just posted the Squier because the similarities were too many to ignore :) If I had the spare change, I'd probably go for the custom shop myself, as well.

Wow...another Squier recommendation. lol

Not knocking Squier but its like asking questions about a Tesla and someone recommends a Prius.

I don't have to spend a fortune on a guitar. All of my guitars cost less than $2K and most cost less than $1K. I just want quality that will last and not have to upgrade at all or maybe just pickups.

I also checked out an Ibanez because it had EMG 57/66 in it. The pups are awesome, the guitar not so much. I check everything out and buy what I like and always check the used wall. They had a Schecter that someone put Super Distortions in the bridge and neck. So if anyone was wondering what a Super D in the neck sounds like it sounds killer.

Re: Fender Custom Shop Strat

I only defended the Squier to keep facts straight. According to every source out there, those Classic Vibes seem to be fully featured, nicely finished and good quality guitars.

Can you do better? Of course. Do you necessarily get five times the guitar when you go custom shop at five times the price? Well, that's for each person to decide...

I only posted it because I found humor in how much the Classic Vibe resembled that particular custom shop model.

I will say that going into a $2.2K custom shop guitar knowing you will need to upgrade the pickups straight out of the gate seems a bit counterintuitive, but in the end, I'd rather have one great guitar that I play than ten I don't, regardless of price ;)

Re: Fender Custom Shop Strat

If I could find one of those I'd totally check it out. You know it's a feel thing. You play tons of guitars until you hit the "right one".

Re: Fender Custom Shop Strat

That's a mid 90's Custom Shop Classic Player Strat. They're a little nicer than an American Std, but not by much if any. I don't think it's worth $2200. I believe they were around $1600 when they came out, and probably worth that now.

In my opinion, the new Fender American Strats are a better buy, since they come with Fat 50's, and are several hundred less.

Re: Fender Custom Shop Strat

Also, the new American Standards have the stamped saddles instead of the cast ones they've used for the past 30 years. The difference is a matter of taste. The stamped ones have a more chimey open sound, and the cast ones have a more direct tone without the sharp high end.

I've always been a fan of American Std's, but I like to find minty used ones, and install Antiquity Surfers in the Eric Johnson/Jimmie Vaughan wiring scheme. That's the best bang for buck.
