I've been looking around at amps for a little while, I want something thats really no more than $1000 canadian. what do you guys think of the fender deluxe and other fender amps like the twin reverb? are these things in my price range? I'm looking for an all tube amp with really nice cleans and a good distortion when im using a distortion pedal. any other suggestions, thoughts, comments, etc..??

The fender BF stuff are great amps with great clean tones...The Deluxe Reverb amp is really nice and has 1 12" speaker and is rated for 22 watts...If you don't need all the power that the Twin offers, and the 2x12s and the added weight, then the Deluxe is a great home and gigging amp...Both amps take pedals nice, though the Deluxe gives up it's clean headroom at around 4 or 5 on the volume control but is still a pretty loud amp...

The Twin stays clean and loud pretty much all the way through it's volume range and is around 85 watts or more...

I Love fender amps for clean tones and it sounds like you're on the right track...These amps are warm and round and have nice clean tones..

I love my Twen...and I love my dads Deluxe...the tones are pretty close but the twin is much louder...I will tell you this after owning a Twin for almost 10 years and doing tons of gigs with it...It's overkill! I could have gotten by 90% of the time with a Deluxe!!! A BF deluxe is on my "one day" list! John is right (as always!!!) these amps do fantastic with pedals!!!

Re: fender deluxe amp

I also own a 40 watt BF Pro Reverb that has 2x12s....You might want to look into today's version of this amp that Fender offers? It's not at all the same amp,but it gets great write ups...

Re: fender deluxe amp

john, what's your take on a deluxe reverb in a jam session-can it handle a mid volume drummer? My peavey handles this just fine, but it would be nice to have a BF fender.

And another thing i noticed-when my band plays outside, i have to crank up the amps alot more, could a deluxe handle a little more volume and stay clean outdoors?

And, last question-what's your favorite 6L6 tube for use in any of these amps, and how is the power tube distortion on these nice little fenders?

do you think these things will all be in my price range though? remember, its $1000 canadian (give or take about $200)

The Deluxe Reverb amp is pretty loud at 22 watts and is a great amp for most smaller gigs and with a medium volume drummer....The amp also gives up it's clean headroom at like 4 to 5 on my 67 Deluxe though...It's a great amp, especially if you mic it into your main system...Once you get outdoors and you aren't mic'd,now you need a bigger amp and speakers to carry your sound..Outside though, you have to be mic'd unless you're talking about playing an outside party at someone's house?

The Deluxe Reverb isn't a gainey amp,so the distortion you do get after you lose headroom,is pretty much all power tube distortion...This amp is cool also because you can set the volume pretty high(Say 5) and then using your guitar's volume control, toggle between clean and overdriven...

I still own alot of NOS tubes and I still love Black Plate RCAs in my BF Pro Reverb...The Deluxe is a 6V6 amp though and again I Like RCA or Tung Sols...

I also like the Svetlana 6L6 and I'd like to try the reissue American 6L6 that Groove Tubes has been talking about...I have enough NOS 6L6s to last me several years though.so I don't buy 6L6s as a rule...
