Fender Deluxe Reverb II (rivera) reverb problem

Hello guys and girls.

i recently got a 1982 deluxe reverb II (the rivera design) to replace my HRD. I' m really happy with the sound, there is though one problem.
When i have the footswitch connected to the rear of the amp and i switch the reverb ON, by pressing on the footswitch the amp becomes very noisy (it s a buzz kind of sound). The buzz goes away if i switch off the reverb via the footswitch.
If i do not connect at all the footswitch the amp is dead silent, no buzz or hum at all, regardless of the reverb, settings. Would that be a clear indication that everything's alright with the amp (reverb tank, reverb cables e.t.c) and that the problem is located at the footswitch? If so what can i do to solve the footswitch problem?

On another note, even though i m more concerned about the footswitch prob, considering the fact i got installed an Eminence tonker in that, how would the sound change if i swap to a cannabis rex?

Thanks for the responces

i cant help with the buzz apart from saying to try using the hum balance pot when the lead is plugged in or perhaps trying a new tube in the reverb send.

Re: the cannabis instead of the tonker....definitely!

What 12AT7 do you have? I had the original USA Sylvania 12AT7s in my Twin Reverb II and switched them out for NOS JAN Phillips. That resolved all of my reverb problems. I don't use a footswitch though.

Here is a good page on the footswitch for the Rivera era Fender amps including schematics: footswitch

oooh : found an interesting quote from the PRII page:
the reverb signal actually travels up this cable and back down again, and without the shield it will pick up noise.
This might be useful to the op...mebbe the cable has an issue.
Being a PRII owner, i think ill build a footswitch too and see how it goes.

Well it s not a tube issue cause i tried replacing with another 12AT7, and the problem persists while the pedal is connected to the amp. Plus the amp is dead silent when the footswitch is not connected.

This was my first thought ... you need to check the cable on the footswitch and ensure it's a shielded type. If it isn't, you'd need to replace the cable with a shielded type or use a footswitch that does have a shielded cable.

Have you tried cleaning the switches with some DeoxIT d5? If the signal is going through the footswitch then it could be just a dirty switch.
