Fender Deluxe Reverb?

What do you guys think of this amp? What do you guys think this is worth in "as new" condition? I haven't had an occasion to play through one, but I've got an opportunity to trade for one. I've always love the Devilles.

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb?

I love the cleans at low volume, but unfortunately for me, it breaks up way too early. I just can't get into Devilles myself, but I love Super Reverbs and tweed Bassmans.

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy one within the next couple of week's. Absolutely LOVED the tone with a Tele thru the amp. Just sounded so full and perfect. It did seem to break up a tad early for my liking with humbucker's, but lot's of folk's have said that a speaker change will give you a bit more headroom. Weber speaker's seemed to be the choice but I can't recall exactley which models were recommended. I have yet to try the amp with pedals for myself but lots of folks have said it's a very pedal friendly amp.

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb?

Are you talking about an original or a reissue?? The originals rock. The Reissues, OK but severely lacking in mojo.

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb?

I have a pair of original blackface DR's from the 60's. Love 'em! I have Celestion G12H30's in each. I would guess they'd sell for $1500 each or more.

Silverface DR's from 1968 - 74 are OK too, though most are not as ballsy and rich in tone as the blackface version. You can find those for $700 or so if you're patient.

Mine are modded. All of my amps are tweaked so I can shape the tone more easily. More mids, less negative feedback, '59 Bassman tone stack values for more of a '59 Bassman/'68 Plexi kind of feel, etc.

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb?

I have a close friend who I just convinced to buy a 67 BF. He was reluctant to buy it, but I convinced him it was the right amp for what he was doing. He plays in a Steely Dan cover band. He called me the other night an thanked me for getting the Amp for him. It is one of the best club amps ever!! At 22 watts it has a lot of balls for small type of Gigs. It stays clean up to about 4 or 5, then it starts to get real ballsy. Over 7 it tends to get muddy. This is one of my all time favorite Amps. They are expensive in original condition. Somewhere around 2000. Worth every penny!! IMO

It is the '65 reissue, blackface. I figured it would be a good practice amp. My small amp right now is Vox Cambridge 30, it's got amazing cleans, but I love tubes, it's a hybrid amp. My only other amp is a 1X12 120W combo, it needs a rebias so I haven't been able to play it for a while. Does anyone know what this would be worth?

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb?

You can probably get a nice silverface DR for 700 bucks or so, too.

Re: Fender Deluxe Reverb?

deluxes are nice amps, if you need more headroom you can put 6l6's instead of 6v6's. i played thru jim weiders bf dlx and it was a killer tone with much more volume than stock. a more efficient speaker like the g12h that lew mentioned helps too

you ought to be able to score a reissue DR for 500 bucks.

I got mine in near mint condition at a guitar show for $450 with a 1964 Jensen speaker (he included the original) and NOS Sylvania tubes. Footswitch included.

It was a bit of a steal but the deals are out there...
