Fender/EVH Wolfgang pickup specs

Re: Fender/EVH Wolfgang pickup specs

Any info on EVH wolfgang specs anyone, A2? Ceramic? the discussion on this tread is left strangely incomplete... I would also like to learn the basic eq characteristics of Wolfgang.

Re: Fender/EVH Wolfgang pickup specs

Shinobi said in his post on page one that the Wolfgang was a USA ceramic mag.

Re: Fender/EVH Wolfgang pickup specs

So a 16k neck/14k bridge 44AWG A2 set? Put me down for two. The only shame is that if EVH hadn't started making his own pickups, these would be Duncans.

Re: Fender/EVH Wolfgang pickup specs

I am seeing more support for the view that a ceramic magnet is used in Wolfgang... but I don't think this is an issue statistics should decide.... I have it presently on my Prs se Torero, I can't tell what the magnet is really, I guess I would need a couple of more years on this forum for that. But I can agree with some opinions already stated : it sounds pretty full-range, I am getting a balanced sound even on this highly mid-focused guitar, so it doesn't sound middy at all, it is bright but nicely smooth. Good day.

Re: Fender/EVH Wolfgang pickup specs

The pickups in my ‘99 EBMM Axis are the same pickups used by Eddie when he played one.

According to Dimarzio, the neck is very similar to an Alnico 5 12.58k Air Norton and the bridge is very similar to an Alnico 5 17.31k Tone Zone.

I don’t really like them but Eddie did and was really pissed that he couldn’t take them with him when he left Ernie Ball Music Man.

I’m planning on replacing them with some 59’s that I’ll do some magnet swapping in first. Now they have Roughcast A5 but I’m thinking of trying A2...maybe Polished A2 for the neck and Roughcast A2 for the bridge.

I’ll have to shorten the ht. adjustment legs and then file the feet to the Dimarzio V shaped foot.

I’m planning to put stiff but springy foam under each pickup so I can adjust the ht. with the screws that hold the pickups in place and which are screwed directly into the wood of the pickup rout.

Sort of like how the neck pickup on a 50’s Tele is adjusted for ht.

Id really like to put Seth Lovers or Antiquitys in my Axis but I’m going to work everything out with this set of 59’s first.

I did that with my Wolfgang Special, there is a Bare Knuckle Holy Diver on it now, getting incredibly good results. Just had to have the feet trimmed, the height was alright, put a foam underneath to facilitate adjustment. I believe the Wolfgangs are quite different pickups from the Axis ones.
