Fender hater converts...

I don't know, but i find that many people are "Fender haters". I myself was a fender hater back in the day when i first got my ibanez. Out of ignorance i always thought that single coils sucked and so did fender until i gained some experience with gear etc. So happens i bought one in July and haven't looked back. Anything like this happened to anyone? Anybody not like single coils but haven't given them a chance?

Re: Fender hater converts...

My Strat originally had single coils ... and I still hate them! :D
Put Joe Bardens in there and never looked back ...

Re: Fender hater converts...

I love Fenders. One of the greatest playing guitars I've ever played. I'm gonna have to say I'm a HUGE Ibanez and Fender fan, but I don't talk to much about Fenders because I only play them at stores, I don't own one. I also LOVE single-coils. I prefer them to Humbuckers.

Re: Fender hater converts...

No. Single coil = Bad.

Not really, I just haven't tried any real singles on a guitar other than Fender, which I hate the neck and feel.

Re: Fender hater converts...

I was the same, with my double hummie axe, I hated fender and singles.

Now im gassin a fender usa strat... :D

Re: Fender hater converts...

I've always played Strats.

I used to be a Les Paul hater though, and now I own one. :smack:

I really like the tone of single coils.

Re: Fender hater converts...

Strats are great when you throw out the factory singles and install a set of Bill Lawrences, Bardens, kinmans or other VERY top quality pickups. Then you have to install a LSR nut and locking tuners. At that point I can swear by them.

Re: Fender hater converts...

I've got a love / hate relationship going with my Tele, the Bastardcaster. I'm not a huge Fender fan, but there's something about Telecasters. Believe it or not, there's a lot of similarity between a Tele & a Les Paul. They're both very utilitarian, they have only stuff on them that's necessary, they're both built very solidly, albeit, in a very different manner. I can get Paul tones out of my Tele and vice versa, it's just a question of settings.

Re: Fender hater converts...

I like singles and 'buckers. They each have a job to do. I'm also finding that an HSS configuration is becoming my favorite. I like having those two singles for one type of sound, and then a nice 'bucker for the bridge.

Almost seems ideal to me. ;)

Re: Fender hater converts...

and now that lots of fenders are being equipped with S1 switching i am set on getting an American Deluxe HSS with locking trem, and then putting some hotter pickups on it.

Re: Fender hater converts...

I have discovered I like the sound of my Duncan Jazz humbucker split.

Definitely don't like Strats though. I bought the Iron Maiden Strat and it just wasn't for me.

Re: Fender hater converts...

before i played guitar, i thought gibsons were the best, cuz a lotta local folks have them

now i hate them

i used to think marshalls were the best amps because a lot of people had them

then i realized they haven't put anything out good that costed under 1.5 grand in years

a lot of fender haters don't understand the concept of them. Fenders were built to be modded, they give you good, no bs, platforms for greatness. Then again there are some exceptions, like toronados & my tele & stuff like that.

+1

I love single coils and now I can't play without them, but for distortion, I need the humbucker. After playing more guitars than I probably should have, Fender just doesn't hold a match against much anymore.

Re: Fender hater converts...

How can you "hate" a guitar? You must see the beauty in them all. Look below the scratches, the bad intonation, the thin paint jobs, there's beauty beneath. Reach down deep into the bowels of your musicianship and come up with some love for the unloved....

If you think you like those Fender single coils, wait until you get funky with a P90! Once with a P90 in black, you'll never go back, one with a p90 in cream and you'll blow away the scene.

Re: Fender hater converts...

I don't like the typcial Strat sound with Strat single coils. However, I love the sound of a tele's lipstick pickup and I love the sounds of other single-coil like Fender guitars like the Jazzmaster and Jaguar.

I like most Fenders as long as they're interesting. I don't like the tried-and-true Strat designs; too safe.

Re: Fender hater converts...

I started out as a Fender hater! I used to hate the feel/sound of Strats (issues with the neck and body), Teles were meh, I considered myself an Ibanez/Gibson HH man. then I heard the Jag and Jazzmaster! Jaguar=best clean sound EVER! I prefer the Jag feel and neck much over most Strats... Though recently I've warmed up to the look/sound of a strat...

so yeah, I was ignorant.

Generally I hate the way humbuckers sound clean for some reason (I think I'm alone though), conversely I never used to liked the way singles sound distorted. Back when I used to only play distorted, Fenders were ruled out for me. This is why I'm not bothered by the fact that I hate the sound of my Schecter played clean (though my coil split mod helps that though), and that my Jaguar squeals horribly if I turn the gain knob up (soon to be alleviated with SDs) and has no sustain. Both have a purpose.

I used to "hate" prs just because of their image, despite that they make great guitars, but I think I've gotten over that now. I'd play a soapbar SE. I'm still not sure if I could still love myself if I owned a guitar related to creed though... call me ignorant.

I LOVE P90s. Tried a Les Paul melody maker and was blown away... haven't got my mind off them ever since... I'll probably go for something with a neck pickup though a special doublecut maybe? Or a soapbar SE?

Re: Fender hater converts...

I've always loved the neck single coil sound as well as the middle but can't seem to come to grips with a single coil in the bridge. Not knocking it, just sounds like it's lacking something to me.

That's funny...I was just thinking about changing my PGn pickup to a Phat Cat...
