Fender head, Marshall cab

I've got a DIY 6G2 Princeton head which I love to death. I currently run it through 2 1x12 cabs loaded with Weber 12A125As and the sound can't be beat.

The amp can actually pull a pretty neat Marshall impersonation as it is, but i'm wondering if I can coax an even more Marshall-esque tone by running through a Marshall style cab? It'd certainly be handy for recording. My idea is to build a 2x12 similar to a 2061CX - an oversize closed-back 2x12 cab loaded with Greenbacks.

Not looking for amp or pedal suggestions, just curious how versatile this lone head can be? Does anybody out there run an old school Princeton or Deluxe through a Marshall cab? If so, are you on a winner or do you feel the combo doesn't quite gel?

Its your business if you wanna look freakin' stupid and put a Fender head on a Marshall cabinet, but at least load it with Jensens or Patriots.

I will say one thing. There is one Fender amp you can put on a Marshall Cabinet , a proper Marshall 4x12 loaded with Greenbacks. Only one. The Blackface Bassman.

REALLY!!
FYI The Prosoncs are high gain screaming monsters.
The Red head here in particular is of interest.

note the little blue sticker on the back

And

I no longer own that particular amp but it was one of the most BRUTAL metal machines on the planet!
Like to see you try and tell Brad Whitford it looked stupid sitting on a Marshall 4/12 while it was on the stage out on the road with Aerosmith!

A PINK guitar..on top of that , its a BS CARVIN guitar ( ..thats pink), and a solid state Fender head on top of a phony Marshall cabinet loaded with probably cheap, speakers. For a freakin Church service!
Do you even have half a brain with your supposedly 'hyper-aware' gear rants ? ?

EDIT-Okay..we need to be in a bar with this. Sitting on stools next to each other, and ribbing one another mercilessly, but in good faith. This kind of stuff doesn't come across well on the internet.

Sorry, I didnt know they wrere Prosonics. I dont know anything about those. Those look pretty good man, espeially because thats a Fender cab. No doubt its a great amp, but no doubt it looks cooler on top of a Fender style cabinet than a Marshall.

Do yourself a favor and just shut up...seriously, all you're doing is making yourself look and sound even dumber than we could have ever thought possible.

Re: Fender head, Marshall cab

I'd love to put a Fender chassis into a cheap ss head and nice speakers into a mismatched cab. Like a Crate cab and a Behringer head.

Sleeper!

Another guy in my band had a Bassman driving a cr@pola Crate 4x12, I gave him a spare Marshall 4x12 I had and it sounded way better. But the Crate actually seemed well built, I bet it just had crummy speakers in it.

Re: Fender head, Marshall cab

I've played A Sovtek MIG50 on top of a Marshall cab for a couple years now. I don't give two steaming piles that someone thinks it looks goofy, it has some kick ass tone. MM, you'll really love it when I put my Hot Rod Deluxe on top of the same Marshall cab. 4 British Celestion 10's with Fender pumped through it. I'll take a picture tonight just to drive you nuts.

Sovteks and Red Bears are bad mammajammas. They're getting hard to find, or I'd already have a Mig50.

Re: Fender head, Marshall cab

MM, STFU. It's 50 watts of sound good through a British 4x10. This is what I play through it. Sly Fox axes.jpg

Re: Fender head, Marshall cab

Not quite a Marshall cab but I have Celestion seventy 80s in my Quad Reverb. Marshall uses these speakers a lot as does Laney. Obviously these are in an open cab verses a closed cab but the tone is amazing.

Sorry for the crappy cellphone pic.

Re: Fender head, Marshall cab

Nice, I played through a Mesa 4x12 that was open top, closed bottom. It was interesting.

I did something simular when I played metal. This amp sat on top of a closed Ampeg V4 4x12. Pushed with a MXR Dist+ and a Morley Boost, it was thunderous!

Re: Fender head, Marshall cab

I have run Fender Bassman heads through Marshall cabinets plenty of times. Nothing blew up. Sounded Great. Looks okay too.

Still looked goofy.

If it sounds good & you dig it..... great. You got it like that. If you don't care if it looks goofy, more power to you.
