Fender Highway One

Re: Fender Highway One

So after all that would i be better off just saving up more and going with the regular American Strat? It seems that this would be the safer of the two options

Depends. Although for a MIM there is more need playing it in the shop before buying, there is no guarantee that a mailordered MIA is any good either.

If you have to ebay or mailorder then the MIA is the better buy because the probability of getting a nice one is higher and reselling it is easier.

Re: Fender Highway One

Interesting tidbit for those looking for more differences/similarities between strats... in looking at published parts lists, no other strat has the same neck part number that the highway does. That doesn't mean that two necks were identical prior to finishing, however.

Furthermore, the number of parts shared between platforms is interesting. Pickups aside, the electronic components (save a single no-load in the American Standards) are the same. Pots, switch, jacks, all the same.

The tuners are shared by Mexi Standards of the same era.

Ayrton... ever tried a new bridge on one of your Highways? HUGE improvement. Mine is sporting a VSVG... worlds better than the zinc blocks that the originals are said to be.

Re: Fender Highway One

I'm quite happy with my Highway 1 and have loved every one that I have picked up. I changed the pickups, but that was the extent of my modification. It sounds great, plays great, and looks awesome (and gets that relic look way faster!) so it's all I needed. Go try one and you'll see what I mean.

That is the last part to replace.

There is not much left that is original on my Hwy 1s. I replaced the necks, pups, and electronics. I wanted to start with the Hwy 1 so I could get a thin finish and vintage style trem, and then I just built what I wanted. :D

Re: Fender Highway One

Bingo. Find one that talks to you. dont worry about what kind it is. you will know you found your guitar when you find it. And strats are so easy to customize.

i second this thought i beleive go to kendrick guitars and and amps
or even callaham and see what folks are missing
ps avoid detemple like the plague

Re: Fender Highway One

ps a major overhaul in strats
single bound cutaway with 2 humbuckers heavy maple cap plus heavy mahagoney body sans trem/vibratto with 3 by 3 tuning heads and a red/orange tigerstrip apearance maybe even 4 gold bellshaped knobs and a switch on the upper left hand side
