dont run it as a 1x12crex. the crex is only a 50 watt speaker. you run the risk of exceeding its specification and cooking the coil.

Have you tried lowering the.pickup
I'm not so familiar with the tone zone
But the JB wanted to be in a particular spot under the strings

Too high and it screeched
Too low and it was a muddy mess

I have been playing with height, and today I'm going to try reversing the pickup direction (I heard the coils weren't totally equal, may warm it up a bit by putting the higher output slugs away from the bridge). But the big issue is when the master volume goes up the tone gets crappy and piercing. I've had this issue on several different guitars, different pickups, etc. I think the true experiment will come with the equalizer and whatever speaker(s), most likely a 1x12 Swamp Thang to start, on similar volumes. I will give that a shot before I spend any money though, thanks!!

As a general question, if the C. Rex is only rated for 50w, will it be better to put it in series or parallel on a 60w amp with a higher valued speaker? I'm not sure if the amp is considered to be a voltage or current source, or just a power source (even wattage out).

It's too bright, yet you have the treble on 8 and the mids on 10...

The power rating of the speaker will not effect the current split (in parallel) and in series the current is shared.
Either way, it is the Impedance of the speaker that will dictate power. Yours will both be 8 or 16, so it will not matter.

I've found those HRD 212s to be way brighter than the 112 HRD

I've since adjusted the controls Mr. sarcasm!

Also i'll say that the tone zone with the screws away from the bridge is very different animal than the TZ with screws toward the bridge. There's more clarity, crunch, and a skosh less output the latter way. I'm keeping it there

So I pulled the trigger on those Crexes. Man does that amp sound great now. I played it at band practice today. I can use the treble, presence and whatever with no issues. I only use the eq to boost the 800z band when soloing, the tone is just so perfect now. Thanks for the tip guys! really worked out for me!

I have the sister amp to this, the Fender Blues Deluxe Reissue. I had the same "too bright" issues until I tried different speakers - in my case going through a Marshall 1960A 4x12 cab. While my 4x12 speakers aren't necessarily the correct ones for you, I think a speaker swap of some kind would be a good thing for you to try.

Told you man. Were the stock speakers Eminence Legend 125/1258?

Eminence makes wonderful speakers. Those are an exception to the rule.

This is true of all the fender hot rod and blues amps that employ the fender/eminence stock oem speakers.
is your devlille the 2x12 or 4x10?
If it is a 2x12, a pair of texas heats will make it sound better in every way.
If it is the 4x10 then check out the 'lil buddys.

+1. The stock speakers aren't that good. I replaced them in my 4x10 Deville and got much warmer, richer tone.
