What's the difference between the clean channels of the hot rods VS the Deluxe reverbs and such? Are the BF reissues THAT much better than them to warrant them a 500 dollar difference in price?

Fender Amps were originally designed with 2 channels One for vocals and one for the instrument. The Reverb channel was for the vocals. The "new" Channel switching Fenders IMO fall short as far as tone goes compared to the original designs. I have a '67 Deluxe Reverb and a '68 Super Reverb. Both of these Amps are excellent sounding Amps. THe other guitar player I play with has the BF reissue Deluxe Reverb and I would say it sounds very close to my original. The Hot Rod series does not do Both well. I think it is hard to get a good clean sound as well as a good drive sound out of both channels. I think you would be better off getting the Deluxe or Super RI and put a good pedal in front of it to get that nice tone.
I ise a modded TS9 in front of my Deluxe, and I use a stock TS9 RI in front of my Super. I am very happy with the tones I am getting. I don't think a Hot Rod can compete IMO. If you are playing a harder style it could work for you, but I am basically a Blues player and the Deluxe with a TS9 is a great combination.
The basic difference in power between the Deluxe RI and the Super RI is about 20 watts. The Super is 40 watts with 4 10" speakers, the Deluxe is 22 watts with 1 12" speaker. The super will handle the bottom better than the Deluxe will the Super is Louder and has a lot more head room.
In my experience which is very limited with the Hot Rod Amps. I found it hard to get a good sound out of both channels. I could get a good clean, but not a good gain or just the opposite.
I know some people who use the Hot rod but only the clean channel and they use pedals to get the dirty sound they want. These Amps to respond well to certain pedals.

I can say 1st hand his 67' DR sounds SWEET. :32:
I don't have much knowledge of the DRRI Mainly cuz' of the sticker
shock I get looking at the price. :yell: This is why I picked up a HRDX.

The booster channel ( as far as I can tell looking at the schematic this
is a one channel amp with booster curcuitry?) is only slightly usefull but
mostly lame. The main reason I when with the HRDX is, I already have
a Princeton Reverb, I needed a Lil' more fire power,I dug the retro vintage
vibe it has, I wanted something with a FX loop and to be able to run a
Ext. cab. The HRDX fit the bill without busting the bank .
It boils down
to what your looking for in a amp.

Is there any way to get a deluxe reverb to be louder? More efficient speaker?
Would a Weber Michigan (EV copy) bring it up to loud backyard shows volume?
And, are there higher headroom 6v6's out there? Or would simply throwing in a 5751 for the preamp tubes do the trick? My band doesn't play insanely loud at gigs, but i need fairly loud cleans.

The other basic difference is a good 300 friggin bucks!! :smack: 300 too much, i might add. If a speaker with a nice beefy magnet like an EV copy can throw the thing into decent volume levels, i think i'll be set.
