Hi all - For my first post in a long time I have a question (actually a couple)

This is my new build Jaguar with 62 AVRI pickups currently installed and wired per Fender specs except for 250K pots in the lead circuit. All pickups in phase (black ground), yellow bridge hot, white neck hot. Both pickups on it sounds a little boxy. I was told that one possibility could be the 250K pots so I will be trying it with the original 1 meg pots this week.

Any thoughts on this - as to why it would be a mostly typical 2 pickup sound, just as loud as either pickup alone but with that extra boxiness?

Also what is the purpose of the 56 K resistor across the lugs of the tone control? I see one Duncan diagram without it. I would like to take it out to see what effect that has. Before I do I would like to find out its purpose. :33: :?:

IMO, the 1Meg pots are a must. I hate 1Meg pots. I tried everything to avoid them. Eventually, I had to accept that a Jaguar does not sound like a Jaguar with anything else. I gave my Fender CIJ Jag DiMarzio Pro Parts pots.

Which tone control has the 56k resistor? The Rhythm Circuit roller pot or the Lead Circuit pot down by the jack socket? The diagrams that I have to hand illustrate only capacitors - .01uF on the Lead Circuit, .1uF on the Rhythm Circuit plus a .003uF on the Bass Cut switch.

One simple test that you can do to hear how your pots affect the sound is to compare the neck/rhythm position pickup through the two control circuits. In your present configuration, you will be comparing 250k (Lead Circuit) versus 1Meg V and 500k T (Rhythm Circuit).

Thanks for the reply - definitely going with the 1 Meg. The 56 K is on the lead circuit tone in the original Fender diagram and in one of SD's diagrams, specifically with the mod to change from 3 switches to toggle on the lead circuit. I did not see it on the "standard" Jaguar SD diagram.
