i think japanese made gutars are very well amde for the most part, i would say they are of equal excellance when compared to a mexico p bass. I dont know about the american made one though

I know that the Japanese Strats and Teles are often of equal build quality as the American, so I guess the bass should be the same situation, I'd say go for it!

GET IT. lol japanese fenders are often equal to american ones, and *always* better than mexican ones..
also, if it has 'crafted in japan' instead of 'made in japan', its definitely on par with any american fender. this means it was made by US luthiers in japan..
i've just gotten a CIJ strat... theyre awesome player's guitars.

I own an 80's Jazz Bass Special and a first year Squier Telecaster. Both were made in Japan and both are amazing instruments.

I loved mine...but like all Japanese guitars, the pickup needed to be changed to something better.
Excellant construction and playability though. And the finish was flawless.
Duncan Antiquity P-Bass pickup is what I'd put in one these days.
Or Duncan Vintage P-Bass or Quarter Pound P-Bass.

yea - fit any kind of aftermarket pickup and you'll love it forever..
my CIJ strat has the hugest D-shape neck, and i love it heh - the craftsmanship is better than most of the MIA i've played... but only own a MIM one, and i can safely say anything from japan kicks it's ass. totally and truthfully.
+1 to puckboy as well - they arent made anymore, i got mine for $255 off ebay... to people that arent aware of their quality, its not as attractive as MIM.. to those who are, they're something of a secret weapon :laugh2:
