Fender Jazz - P-Bass, new pups

I have a good friend with a nice MIA Fender Jazz Persision Bass.

He is now looking for an improvement in tone. He wants pick-ups with my kick, punch, and headlock... or somethin like that.
Anybody know about the Duncan bass pick-ups that might come in sets for a Jazz/P-Bass.
He's asking for more punch, but less brightness.

Can anyone offer some help?

I'd suggest the Quarter Pound version of the Precision and Jazz Bass pickups. Lew

The guy at one of our overpriced guitar shops in town reccomended the Hot pick-ups.
What do ya think about those?

Re: Fender Jazz - P-Bass, new pups

I don't have quite as much experience with bass pickups as I do guitar pickups. Mostly just what people have told me when it comes to the bass pickups.

From what I understand, the Hots are the same as the Vintage but with a hotter wind.

That makes the pickup have more output and more bass and usually less treble.

The QP's have those larger polepieces. My understanding of those is that they have stronger bass, mids and highs...as well as more output than Vintage.

So maybe your friend in the overpriced guitar shop was right and the Hots would be the way to go...especially if you want a pickup with stronger bass but warmer highs.
